£422 from a BMW service centre in Edinburgh.
- Sound about right?

Seems alot for oil and filters - but the oil could be very expensive.

Car does need ALOT of oil & unfortunately BMW Dealers won't allow you to supply your own like Audi will.

I paid £350 for my 1st proper service which is Oil/Filter & Cabin Filter.

Have you said yes to them?

Tell them you'll call them back. If you don't call them say you've got a cheaper quote elsewhere. They'll either (a) let you go or (b) try and match it.

Always negotiate. Do you guys think that BMW dealers pay retail price for their own branded products? They have rather hefty mark ups on all items.

I've always supplied my own oil, usually saves the best part of £100 against the dealer providing it.

Yup. Turned out to be expensive.
- called another dealer, booked in 2 m5s, got a very significant reduction.

Actually.... It make group buying a service well worth while. Just a thought.

Thanks y'all

It was £1000 for 5 years or 40k miles (The miles is the bit than makes it a waste of money, its maybe changed now though that was 2 years ago). Service only every 18k ish

Ahh, that's right. I thought it weird it was not 60k miles giving it 12k per year, that would be is worth it. 50k is just a bit no-mans land in terms of service package cost.

On what car? I've asked several dealers what they'll allow me to do & if the parts/consumables are not supplied by them then they won't fit them & no room for negotiation. Audi were totally different & would let me supply my own oil &/or OEM parts.

CSL (Sytner / Stratstone) E60 and E61 M5's (Stratstone / Elms) They always pull a funny face when I tell them I'm supplying my own oil but have never pushed back and said it must be dealer supplied.

I may have another push then when next service is due. To be honest, all consumables that are non service book items i get done at an Indy as have no intention of paying stealer money for parts or labour.

I supply my own oil for servicing. Never had any dispute or discussion.
