Hi Everyone
Couple of gearbox questions:
1) every now and then my e60 m5 won't change up using the paddles, I have to use the lever. Doesnt happen very often. What is the cause and is it anything to worry about
2) at low speeds the cars gear box sounds 'buzzy'. Sorry for the technical term but can't explain it another way, feels a bit like a worn bearing. Once over say 20 mph it's fine and smooth. Any thoughts on this anyone?
Thanks

Clutch is wearing out hence the upshift delay.

Do you lift off before changing gears (either up or down)? It makes a big difference and can prolong clutch life.

Do an SMG clutch reset; 40mph, 7th gear.....knock it into neutral and hold both paddles down for 5 seconds. You won't get any notification that it has been reset but next time you pull away or change gear it should be a little smoother.

Hmmm, strange. Did you change the clutch position sensor when you did the clutch?

Was the flywheel done at the same time? When was the last SMG service done, it should be done every 3rd oil service.....?

If you use cruise control, do you get a jerk or does it set the speed nicely? And can the speed go up and down via the toggle button smoothly or does it jerk a bit?

Sorry for all the questions. Before I did my clutch I had all manner of transmission issues but once I changed everything it was smooth as silk and a real pleasure to drive from there onwards.

Just bought car three weeks ago so will have to check with sevice records. I know that looking at the i drive service information all items are showing ok.
Only tried the cruise control once so far and appeared ok.
If it was a clutch issue wouldn't it be the same for the gear lever as the paddle. The gear-lever never fails to change up.
To get a smooth change I find if I pull the paddle then lift up a bit it changes smoothly.
Thanks

Check to see if there's a solid click on the paddle on both sides (+ and -). The E60/E63 are notorious for having the hinge tab break and give a floppy paddle on occasion.

I think your right that it may be a paddle problem as the gear lever never fails to change gear.

had the same prolem with my smg...undid the bolt on the paddle removed and replace it, tightened back up...there wasa little click and problem solved. 5 mins. Or you might have to take the steering wheel cover off and sort it that way.
