Last time I updated the satnav I had to insert a few DVDs and it took a couple of hours to update.

This time I got a USB stick with instructions to update via the USB stick in the glovebox. However I do this and nothing happens, the satnav doesn't acknowledge it.

The dealer is stumped, apparently it should just work.

Doing some research suggests that some 2009 CIC cars need a firmware update to allow USB map updates.

Does anyone have any experience of this problem?

I thought CIC wasn't introduced until 2010 on the E6x and 2009s are CCC.

My 59, 2009, E92 CIC failed to recognise the sat nav maps this way. I just used a DVD in the end during a convenient long journey.
Only helpful point, is that circa 12/2014 I had all the updates the car could have. Related to sat nav, I had the firmware for the 7 digit postcode facility smile

Once you had the firmware upgrade, did a 'Software Update' option appear in the settings menu? Apparently this indicates that a USB update is possible.

The car was delivered in May 2009 with CIC.

No software update option.

However, when I was failing to get my USB maps to install, I was reading of others who had older cars than me and/or certainly not having the update I had (for the postcodes) and yet they updated via USB in glove compartment.

I am talking about 3 series owners, if that makes a difference?

My thoughts were that my USB wasn't working. Maybe see if yours can play music, for example. I am sure they are supposed to?
