does anyone have an M4 Convertible
Discussion
drove one (65 reg) last weekend.
was impressed, although I didn't drive it too hard.
damping is superb, ride is amazingly compliant (even in Sport) on London's awful roads.
steering was accurate and quick, but not too much feel.
it sounded fine too, loud but not interesting.
seems very well built.
DCT was excellent.
very little scuttle shake.
it felt well balanced too.
despite the weight, it felt nimble (again, did not drive it hard).
Any one with insights and thoughts please.

I was recently given a 65 plate m4 conv for a few weeks whilst my f80 m3 was being prepared. My previous car was an m4 coupe.
To be honest I'm not really a big fan of convertibles (usual purist driving reasons) but actually really enjoyed driving the m4 convertible.... It's was fast and capable...and unless you'd previously owned an f80 m3/m4 coupe you would not be concerned about the performance levels... It certainly hides its weight well and it's only when you're beginning to push the car hard that it starts to show...top end of the Rev range and movement of weight when switching direction. I also like the unique shape and it attracted a lot of positive attention (white with full black carbon body kit).
The m4 conv also has more headroom than the coupe and the seats are also different, in a good way...flatter and very comfortable, the pedals also seems a little closer for a better driving position.
My view is: if you want out and out performance get the F80 m3, followed by an m4 coupe, but if you want a convertable the m4 is hard to beat and packs a great experiences
I would probably choose the m4 convert over the m4 coupe... (I found the coupe a little cramped and mid life crisis with its looks...where as the M3 is more agressive looking and ruggered...great fun). They're all good choices...have fun!!

for me, it's convertible that is the main priority.
with that in mind, very little fits the bill .. M4 Convertible is not cheap, but there is no C63 convertible (yet) and the Audi RS5 convertible is very old tech. F Type convertible not my cup of tea either.
I am not going to take the M4 conv to the track but will to European driving trips, but even on those, I don't expect to be anywhere near 10/10ths .. may be 8/10ths

Sorry SFO to piss on your chips here - but I was loaned one for a weekend and I really hated it. Sorry. was impressed, although I didn't drive it too hard.

First the good bits
Engine is immense
Front End is great and turn in is superb
Now the bad
It is massive externally
The roof and the way it articulates and stows away is just a joke, the boot is tiny with the hood down and the whole car shudders and shakes as it jigs its way through the movements
You sit on the car and not in it like a normal F80 M3
...and the noise it makes... when you just trying to drive discretely is a joke...
Sorry, I really wanted to like this car as an all round M Car that I could use for everything - but I found it horrid.
Just my view.

no issues with size for me .. it has the same foot print as M3 and M4 CoupeThe roof and the way it articulates and stows away is just a joke, the boot is tiny with the hood down and the whole car shudders and shakes as it jigs its way through the movements

roof felt OK to me, it was fine when opening and closing with car stationary
can you not set off in comfort to tone down exhaust?
