Static Stock of M6s
Discussion
First post, be gentle!
I've been keeping track of the early V8 M6s for about 4 months, with hopes of buying one for £42k or less, but these things do not seem to be selling and prices don't seem to be falling. Many of the same cars have been sat around (generally from trade rather than private) and the prices have remained static at £46,000-52,000.
Do we think this is artificially inflated prices or are there just no buyers at this price point?
Also, many of the prices seem to bear no relation to age and mileage. Are there any options which are 'must haves', the absence of which might make a particular car cheaper (such as magnetic ride on R8s)?

100% over inflated.
Really most of them should be down at 40k. You can get a new one or pre reg at 65k easily. So how a 2 year old one is 50k I got no idea.
I think the trouble this the difference between rrp and what they actually sold for. This causes confusion.
It will get to a point people will want to off load them ASAP. I notice this happening to the m5's now. Quite a few very low millage 2013 models coming on the market at 35-36k and we still have people trying to sell higher millage 2011-12 models for more!
There are not must have options. Anything must have on the m6 is already in the price. The only thing that would make me chase a car for a small premium is the b&o: it's a work of art.

Artificially inflated.
They're not in the same league as 997 turbos or r8s etc.
I'd say they were worth £32-35k really, same as an m5
M6 worth the same as an M5... Afraid not pal. People get M5s either because they have a family or for work, M6 is a coupe and as such more of a personal chariot, it's also a much nicer place to be seated, faster, better handling, dame site better looking so bound to hold value more. With fuel dropping and loads on the market from all marque's prices are sat static although I am sure a stealer would do a deal if pushed.
997... Ok if your a driving God and can use it and if you like people thinking your a cock, R8, nice but even more people will think your a cock unfortunately even in the v10.

Welcome
I do find these a bit of an oddity, but a nice one. I wonder if they'll do the classic 6 series dip at some point. M status ones less so.
I hope so - I don't think it helps that the facelift is extremely subtle.

Other option is an E92 M3 but coming from a 5.0 XKR, I think it might feel a bit underpowered.

I'm on my third M5, soon to be fourth....nothing to do with family or work reasons.
The M5 looks more menacing, is less pretentious and is more spacious inside than the M6.
M5s are far cooler.
I have tried to like M6s, but they seem quite unloved....so many hang around dealerships like a bad smell.
Oh and come to think of it....I've never seen one driven in anger, presumably because Nige doesn't know how!

M5 is way cooler and I'd say a cult following the 6 can't match and that counts when you come to sell.
I didn't need a practical car but I went for the M5 over the M6 because it is imho the better looking car.
M6 still a nice car mind but M5 for me all day long.

I went from 997 to F10 M5 to M6 GC. All are superb cars. What the comment about only driving Gods being able to handle a 911 is all about I've no idea, but this isn't a Porsche forum.
I loved my M5 to bits and really enjoyed the stealth image it had. I felt the interior of the M5 could have been improved and I personally think the M6 GC is a beautiful car with one of the best interiors of any make at any price. I also have a wife and three young kids and my M6 is family transport for all five of us.
Without sounding to arrogant I don't think people buying these cars are that concerned about the price of petrol. My Golf GTD would win every time.
I agree that the M6 is not worth the huge premium over the M5 that BMW charges in its largely irrelevant price lists. Maybe think of the M6, particularly the GC as a very high spec M5.
There are lots of bargains out there. Have fun!

Have you tried counselling?
I like the m6 GC but the too small door cards wind me up - it really puts me off - I shouldn't be seeing body colour on the inside of the car on a car that costs this much

I have the same bug bear with the current gen golf - body colour on the inside door around window - even the Astra has it covered with trim.

It seems to be the way with most cars these days, everything from rep mobiles and shopping trolleys to classics and exotica seem to come with over inflated asking prices and very unmotivated sellers... I see so many cars, both private and trade, that are just left sat unsold on the market for months and months.
Both are nice cars and the interweb can make things sound wrong so apologies as my own view prefers the 6, nothing wrong with the barge like M5.
. As for the 911 drive, having been in a few turbo variants they just seem to defy physics to the point where when they do let go mid corner there's gonna be allot of tears due to the speed they can carry.
I still think the premium will stand mind as the overall market aims are different and the original prices are far apart. Just time your "offer" at the right time and it's surprising what you can get off. I did this with my 650 F13 and got a great deal only to screw up after 5 weeks when I drove an M5 and just had to trade up to the M6! got a little raped over that but my own fault.

I think the M6 is a better looking car inside and out but I prefer the M5's multifunction seats, there is a lovely SMB CP M6 at my local dealer with full platinum leather looks amazing, up for 40k IIRC, a staggering amount of car for the money.
Do you mind me asking which dealer? Sounds like it might be a bit of a leggy example?Edit: There's an SMB CP one in Colne, Lancashire up for £46k with 41,000 on the clock?

As a cheaper option, 2 M5s have appeared at Big Motoring World at a price which is making me wonder what is wrong with them:

This is a good feature of "a" M5!
f
k me.....why are so many people so thick these days? It's as if they have no grasp of basic English.....and they're so thick they will even contrive an argument about why they are, in fact, correct.
