BMW E46 M3 Service History questions/advice

Sorry for posting two threads in 3 days, however I believe any advice could be useful to other potential buyers too.


Looking at a 2002 M3 with 93k on the clock. I'll put the service history below. If I'm right it's missing an Inspection 1 or 2 and some minor services too.

Any advice would be great, is this a car one would normally avoid, or par for the course on most M3's out there


04/03/03 1,100 miles - Running in check
19/01/04 9,461 miles - Oil service & Micro filter
24/03/04 10,440 miles - Inspection 2
02/10/06 30,625 miles - Oil service & Micro filter
17/12/07 39,705 miles - Inspection 2
22/03/11 62,357 miles - Oil service & Micro filter
23/04/13 74,611 miles - Inspection 1
26/11/14 84,350 miles - Oil service

It's been over serviced up and including the 17/12/07, 2004 should have been an Inspection I. There is a missed serviced service in 2009, from 2011 onwards it's back on track.

Doesn't sound too bad then. Inspection 2 at 100k sound about right?

It needs an inspection 2 now.
Last one was in 2007, so unless documented otherwise, it's had the same plugs, diff & gearbox oil for 9 years.

Or in 16 years it's had 2 Inspection 2's while coving c 100k.

It needs one now clearly and that will draw a line in the sand. Clearly it will never be a collectable car or concourse but if it's healthy then happy dayz
