Valvoline Vr1 racing 10w/60 -any experience wrt S54?
Discussion
Curious to know if anyone has used Valvoline Vr1 racing 10w/60 on their S54 engine ?
Its not fully synth like Castrol Edge 10w/60
If its just for a routine oil service [circa 1k miles since last change 15 mo ago and oil doesnt look clean any more ] and old man road use low mileage -will it do the job as well ?
My factor is quoting me 40 quid for 6l incl filter for Valvoline cf 70 quid from Opie for Castrol plus filter
Its not fully synth like Castrol Edge 10w/60

I'd Stick to Castrol edge 10w 60, if you mess about (and bear in mind how high revving the S54 engine is) you could risk engine damage, also whats £30 in the grand scheme of things? less than 1/2 tank of super unleaded.
Just my thoughts.

Don't do it. Stick to what is recommended for the car, either Castrol 10W60 or Shell Helix Ultra Racing which is what a BMW dealer will be using now.Its not fully synth like Castrol Edge 10w/60

Even if the car has only done 1k miles the recommended service interval on that car are as per the service indicator for miles or every 2 years, whichever occurs first.
