My M5 is due for a service and my garage (BMW) have suggested I bring my own and save a small fortune.

It appears they've changed their allegiance from Castrol to Shell recently and I have been asked to supply 9.5L of 0/30 long life engine oil.

The only 0/30 I can see from Shell suits a Diesel engine.......possibly not the right one then!

Can anyone please help me select the correct oil smile

Thanks

Try Shell lube match. Pretty sure it needs Longlife 04, check your owners manual. This is in various grades from various manufacturers.

You could see if Cotswold are still selling the 1L Shell bottles for £12.99 (list is £18.30).

I suspect you may be right and I don't want to buy the wrong one!

Hi my 2014 m5 is going in next week
I bought 9 litres from opies oil.
Shell Helix ultra 0w-30w
It is the bmw-LL-04 which is required .

BMW seem to no longer "support" Castrol.
I got 15% off from opies oils as it was the Easter weekend deal 9L delivered was £82 as opposed to the £167 Bmw dealer wanted for the exact same stuff in the same bottles .

Forget what numpties at BMW dealers tell you. Half of them will tell you to put 10w/60 in it.

Read the manual. Brand of oil is irrelevant, any link with castrol or shell etc is purely a marketing gimmick.

5w30 or 0w30 is fine. Personaly I've stocked up on Mobil 1 5w30 as it was on a deal at Halford's 5l for £29.it's LL04.

9.5L will be too much! My m6 took 8.5L
