Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and unfortunately my first post isn't a great one for me, so any advise or help would be very much appreciated.

I have had the yellow and red cog for transmission show up on the iDrive, so had the error codes scanned by my local indy and they came up with the following:

Fault codes (from Autologic diagnostics):
5400 – SMG: Shift lock
5507 – SMG: Power supply. Shifting travel valves (R/1, 2/4, 6/7)
5508 – SMG: Power supply. Pressure control valves
5509 – SMG: Power supply. Shifting travel valves (5/3). Clutch valve

The first two times the yellow cog came up they cleared themselves within seconds (before I could even stop) and car drove fine, the next time the red one came up and sent car into Neutral. Had to stop and turn off and restart to continue (no trouble restarting). The last time got stuck in 7th gear while on way to get diagnostics done and again, had to stop and turn off and restart to continue (again restarted without any problem and went into neutral ok). It started doing this about 3 weeks ago and did it four times in that time (every other time of driving it, until the red cog).

Having read various posts, I decided to replace the SMG Pump Relay, but in doing so appear to have not seated it fully and it burned out and now I have an SMG Pump Relay error code too!

Any help is much appreciated..
Thanks

This is most likely a problem with the main wiring harness on the transmission itself. All the harnesses on the SMG have shown they do not age well and the insulation breaks down. Typically the sensor strip on top of the actuator block is the worst given it's location and lack of airflow, but the round barrel connector on the right side is prone to this as well. You should be able to get it inspected without having to drop the transmission, just need to remove the undertrays and heat shields to view the connector.

thanks jcolley. this is something myself and the indy looking at it thought may be a possibility. I tried to register on m5board in the hope that you might reply, as you are clearly well educated in the working of the SMG transmission!

thanks again....
