BUYING A 2005 E60 M5 WITH 9 OWNERS
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to buy a e60 m5.
The only problem is the car has had 9 owners in 11 years with 60000 miles
age sept/2005, Its priced around £17000 from a BMW main dealer. Is this a good deal?
The car itself is all black including the wheels.
Anything I should ask the main dealer to check before I take the plunge?
Many thanks in advance.

Looks to be a decent price, especially if you negotiate a 2 year warranty.
Yes the number of owners is high and black on black on black generally doesn't bode well but go in with your eyes open.
Things to look out for which the warranty won't cover are: clutch, brakes and tyres. It's a £5k+ spend for those items!

People buying cars generally come in two categories. Those who pretty much won't accept anything with more than 50K miles/Full dealer history/two owners.... and those who actually look at the car and judge it by the condition it is in.
I have seen 100K+ fifteen owner cars in immaculate condition and 20K mile two-owner cars which are snotters.
There are an awful lot of cars where one owner per year is normal - although they tend to be small convertibles (MX-5, Boxster, etc...). An M5 is less common but I would predict a pattern of "bloke buys it thinking it's great, realises 17mpg hurts more than you think, sells it".
Look at the histories of most of the people on here, some have had huge numbers of cars and cared for every one. Go and view it, if you like it, buy it. Some people won't be interested come resale but someone will.
I think generally an 11-year old M5 which is known for being pricey to fix is not going to be of interest to a dealer full stop. It's only really super-low mileage examples that will go places like Hexagon etc...
As it happens I personally wouldn't go for that car, because I don't judge a car by it's owner but a black/black colour scheme does not sit well for me, especially with a car like that. A touch too drug dealer.

Selling a car with 10 owners in another 12 months will cost you an absolute fortune.
Your buying from BMW so a bit higher than buying it privately and then when you come to sell it you will be trading it in or selling it on privately. Both of these will mean a big loss.
I don't know of a single dealer who would buy one with that many owners and i'm suprised BMW are even selling it tbh.

if i were to purchase an additional years warranty when I sell the car would it make a significant difference to the price?
would you guys buy a 2007 m5 from a non franchised dealer instead? and then put a mondial warranty on it?
if you guys see a good one oit there would you mind posting on this thread or pm if it breaks forum rules.

Would you want a partner that had been through that much 'use'?
Cars/women/chavs.....they're all the same! You don't really know where they've been or what they've been through (or what's been through them!), all you can do is inspect them and judge them on their current condition.
And if they come with a solid warranty, all the better!
(If you do, PCP it, as it's hard to get rid of spoiled goods!)

Like one poster here alot of people I know go for a car with low owners and low mileage. However, they tend to forget that the owners may not take care of such things etc. I know of a 1 owner Mercedes with low mileage. Would I buy the car? Not a chance - At least with a number of owners the odds put you at ease and make you look at the car obhectively.
However, a black on black car is not for me.
