Talk to me folks. Seriously considering one and trying to work out best way to go about it.
Got budget to do all of these but my focus is on maintaining minimum depreciation loss over say 2 years.
Do I walk into a dealer and buy new? Are there deals to be done on big discounts and 0% meaning great GFV? Buying new seems like a bad idea on depreciation usually but BMW finance is quit creative sometimes...
Go for a use 30 Jahre car (and then put 5000-6000 a year on it?) They look great and seem very limited but don't seem to be holding their prices but are they going to stick at 80k in the face of the new model in 2018? Do collectors care?
Get a used car with competition pack and get it tuned up to 700 plus for a lot less than a 30 jahre car and enjoy the fact that it'll probably be quicker than my current daily and figure that buying a 2-3 year old car minimises the depreciation...
Any thoughts?

An M5 and minimal depreciation unfortunately don't go hand in hand.
There are significant double digit discounts on a new one, however I would assume that depreciation would be minimal if buying at the bottom of the market rather than at the top. The upgrades during the model's life aren't too significant (steering wheel, touch pad for infotainment etc), so if you can find a cheaper one you like that would be my advice.

As above, these kind of cars do not play well in the depreciation stakes & that's always been the case.
Personally i'd avoid the Jahre as no real benefit & just a bigger depreciation gap. Not looked at prices for a while but i'd be sure you could get a low mileage clean LCi F10 for around £35-40k & that's still the current model so you'll have all the minor upgrades & be buying a lot of car for a good price. It will still depreciate, but the big chunks will be behind you.
Take it to DMS or Evolve & you'll be looking at 700bhp & 650lbsft which transforms the car from a very fast car to a ballistic missile. Perhaps upgrade the pads to aid stopping & make sure it's clad with MPSS & jobs a goodun.

ok makes sense thanks folks.
Do love the look of the 30 Jahre, and with only 300 examples worldwide I'm surprised values aren't holding better.
I guess it's just not different enough to the standard car to make it that exciting to collectors and enthusiasts.
Been to check out Evolve's website - it's a complete mess! I know their product works (I've run head to head against their M5's at VMAX a few times, they're pretty quick)...

How important are the LCi changes?
Obviously the age is the main driver of the price, but is it really worth spending 10k extra on the facelift model?
What options would people consider "essential?"
I'm looking at between 30-35k, hope for a black or montecarlo blue with black leather upgraded seats....

A friend has just bought an F10 and had it mapped at DMS, made 751bhp.. and the way that thing relentlessly gathers speed at any point on the speedo (and beyond!
) is hard to get your head round. The fact it's that fast but still so civilised is fantastic, massively impressive car!!Cheers,

Any idea on torque? The car's transformed once it's been breathed on, transforms an animal into a Monster. Had mine at Stage 2 for close to 18mths now & it's epic

Absolutely.
What do people do after the stage 2 is it then hybrid turbos water injection etc?
Not seen any UK owners go down this route, Stage 2 with upgraded filters & exhaust seem to be the top line over here. In the US they've gone much further & yes upgraded turbos, clutches & meth injection. Those guys are pushing 900bhp.What do people do after the stage 2 is it then hybrid turbos water injection etc?

I can't wait to get my M5. Only have a budget of £25k so looking at the 2009/10 models with less than 50,000 on clock. I believe they are the V8 models with just over 500bhp. Reading the posts above, I would be interested in a remap but do worry about how that may void a warranty?
It will be a 2010 Sept onwards unless your going for an E60 M5. It's 560bhp standard.
Buying at the age your looking at will have no warranty anyway so that's a worry off the table.
