Is this an official badge of some sort?
Discussion
Had some feedback from the dealer. Previous owner wanted to "differentiate" his E93. Made the car look like a fake when it is actually real! Could be harmless or could signify the previous owner was "special".
Edit: Needless to say, the dealer has now removed the badge...

Hmmm attentive dealer who didn't notice it to start with, questions the reliability of the dealer, what else did they miss on the cars inspection? give it a very stern eye when looking it over, sure its harmless if nothing but odd, but keep your wits about you on the rest of the car, if in doubt walk away.

So, I'm looking at the car at the weekend. For a novice to BMW and M, what are the 10 easy things I should look at when assessing whether I buy the car (E93 M Cab). I am happy with the spec and the buyers guides seem to focus on this rather than what things should put me off a car?
I'd look to start a new post, and ask for some buying advice to this BMW m-forum from owners, and see what top picks you get to look out for. I don't own an e92/3 but an e46 m3, so I'm not 100% sure what specifics areas should be top of the hit list.
If I was looking at one like you my hit list would be:
Overall condition, especially bodywork and the interior like leather seats
Mileage and number of owners
The test drive,
Wheel condition
Brakes condition
Service history and any paperwork to back it up inc past mots
Does everything on the car work ok/air con/electrics etc
Price vs condition
Tyres make/type tread depth
However I'd use the usual approach and caution, looking at service history in detail and see if you can trace the car back to the dealers it's been serviced by, check oil and look for evidence of oil top up pouch in the boot which might indicate it's had the correct oil used etc, make sure the wheels are mint they look bad if poorly refurbished.
Check things like all electrics, and heated seats etc air con and the elec roof.
I'd also look up its past mot history on:
https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history
Look for any advisories that might not have been addressed like bushes or any oil leaks brake failure, poor tyre maintenance etc
You can tell a lot about these cars by the tyres fitted, if it's got linglong tyres and not pilot sports or something equally decent what else has been scrimped on?
Check brake discs for wear thickness, and corrosion, full set are up to £1000 I think?
Ask when it had a full alignment on a proper hunters wheel aligner.
Finally be cheeky and Ask to see it on a ramp if you can, and if they don't mind it's a good sign, if not ask why not? (Assuming the place has a ramp that is)
And sorry forgot to ask are you buying from a main BMW dealer with an approved used warranty? If so you'll have a good comeback if it's a wrong or bad car.
Good luck, and I hope it's mint.
Andy.

The car is at an indie. Great advice. Thanks!

You welcome, i didn't want it to appear as though i was teaching you to suck eggs so to speak!!
But if its at an Indie then you wont have the BMW AUC warranty to fall back on so any checks you can do will help.
I was also thinking (as i did with mine) ask if they will allow another independent BMW service centre inspect the car? and see what faults crop up? It could save you some hassle in the long run, and for say £150 give you a clear picture of the cars health.
