Hi all

Sorry if already asked somewhere - please do post link if so - but what is the general sentiment regarding ECU remaps on X5 M's from a reliability perspective ie. clutch, gearbox, engine etc. And particularly in context of an older one (2010) with 80k miles on the clock. Have been offered a remap of +125bhp taking to 680 which sounds pretty enticing ; ) but... well any buts?

Thanks

I think it's the same engine as the F10 M5 and I believe they suffer from very little issues. Regarding the gearbox, I'm unsure.

However be prepared to fork out thousands if something was to go wrong, which is of course more likely - but not inevitable - when you increase the engine's output by nearly 25%.

Thanks. Yes indeed this is the concern. Has anyone on here done an ECU remap on one of these and if so to what power output? Any issues? Thanks

But the F10 M5 only came out in late 2011/early 2012 didn't it? Was the engine really in the X5M for 2 years before that so made it's appearance in the X5 rather than M5? Also what engine is in them now as the outputs on the X5/6M increased with the most recent facelift I think.

If it is the same engine as the F10 M5 then a Stage 2 tune (DMS or Evolve) will get you around 710-750bhp & 660-700lbsft.

It's an S63, which is similar but not identical to the F10 M5 etc engine. Give the guys at Evolve a call and they can advise on what's best for the car, what power you'll see etc.

I'm not sure you'll see the same power as the F10 M5 which can see 750+hp, Evolve have recently tuned an X6M to 730hp, which did a 12.01s 1/4 mile, but they didn't want to push further because of uncertainty with the 4WD system. The car was brand new so I'd imagine they'd want to be a bit more conservative on one with 80k.

Hi there

I had an X5M tuned by Evolve, it was brutal (in a good way) !!!!

I also had a 40D at the same time, I was going to get this mapped but did not get the time, then the engine blew up, new engine from Germany £ 19k thankfully still under warranty, would have been a different story had I had it mapped.

I got the map taken off the X5M the following week & never mapped again.

Saying this I have mapped my cars for many years without any issues, the benefits are amazing, once "NEARLY" burnt is enough !!!

I have had DTUK on a few vehicles, had one on my Discovery, had turbo issues with this so simply took the box off & all repaired under warranty. Had both a Revo map & DTUK (at different times) on a 2.0 VW engine and actually preferred the way the car drove with the box than I did with a Revo map, was so much smoother, the DSG was better with the box.
