hi , when i turn my 2008 m6 off i was told to select either drive or reverse to stop car rolling as handbrake not that good , is it right that if you push start/stop button it selects park (to lock wheels up) ?

There's no park position per se - you have to put in into reverse or forward (i.e. not neutral).
