Last night, took the 5 out for a drive after being sat on the drive for ~ 3 weeks.
Got to the first junction and it stopped, totally dead. Luckily a couple of chaps helped me push or to the side of the road.
BMW breakdown are taking a look now, they don't think it's the battery.

Will let you know...

Okay, I'm not very technical with cars. Car stopped at the junction and I could not start it. Thought it could be the battery but looks like something else. Techie thinks it may be related to misreading of fuel as there's 39 miles left...

No joy, car gonna be trailered to BM dealer. Techie thinks it a fault with the fuel pump but cannot check on the road.
Thank God for extended warranty. Let's see what happens.

Will update.

It happened to my E63 M6 a few times. Turned out to be the cooling fan which was faulty and they also changed the thermostat too at the same time. The engine was over-heating which was causing the ECU to turn the engine off to protect it. After I got it fixed it never happened again.

Does the engine turn over, but just not start? If so, its no seized.

I assume there are no fault code showing?

If you have the mondial Warranty, I wouldn't worry, it will get fixed.

£0, £100, or £250.

Your choice when you set it up.

And don't these policies have a maximum claim amount ?

I have one of these warranties and have never really thought about it until now but what if the repair costs more than the value you paid? Do they just give you the cash back that you paid and you walk away?

Okay, update. The fuel control unit has gone which needs replacing. Would have cost ~750 if no warranty.

Re warranty, definitely having imo.

Does the price of the warranty go up after 60k miles?
Seem to remember that it's best to change to monthly payment at this point?

When I looked into this for the one on my CSL, it was important to be on the monthly scheme before hitting 60K.

The warranty is definitely worth having for you. However a quick google shows you can buy these off ebay for £25. Programming them would cost nothing if you bought the software online for £50, assuming they need programming for the car and aren't just a quick replacement.

I doubt many people buy them from BMW for £750.

Surely if you want the BMW equivalent to Ferrari Classiche standard and it's impact to value you would.
