BMW M6 CP (2014 or 2015)
Discussion
Hi All,
I have been looking at the BMW M6 for a while now. I have noticed there's a lot of stock which sits around for a long time. The other point is prices fall fast.
That said when I contacted BMW Enfield to discuss a white 2015 M6 they had for sale they would not move an inch on the price. It was up for £65k and within 2 months it was down to £58k. It was still 4k more than similar cars.
What is the best way to manage a purchase from a BMW dealer? How low can they go? Whens the best time to buy from them. I am in no rush can ideally would like to commit by the end of this year, i.e. Christmas. That said if I get an good car I will commit earlier. The spec needs to be spot on before I commit.
Regards,
LP

Hi!
These cars hang around for long periods for a reason.
Even when they go, they are often only moved to another dealership within the group!!
I guarantee a dealer would bite your hand off to do a deal towards Xmas, with an initial offer coming from you early December.
Be prepared to walk away, but do ask them to give you a call if they change their minds....they will, provided you convince them you're having one for Xmas!
Whatever deal you get, you will almost certainly lose a packet, but I'm sure that will be factored in to your plans.
At the other end, you will find it impossible to shift privately too.
Good luck!

Would you care to elucidate on this comment please ? I ask as I may in the market at some point. These cars hang around for long periods for a reason.

I agree, I have seen people selling their M6 for months and months. One guy has knocked £10k off the price and still no sale.
I think these cars are ridiculously difficult to sell privately and will lose s
tloads.
I plan to own it for 5 years and expect to lose £25-30k in depreciation.
I think you are right. I will have a look around December time. Will probably go in at 15-20% off the asking price and will stick to it. They won't shift them in Nov, Dec or Jan or even Feb.
I have seen a couple being sold in March. one Singapore grey M6 has been on sale for 6 months + at an independent which recently sold.

I have looked at these on and off for over a year now. Prices are just plain daft, no where near related to the prices they were being sold for new and like you said the dealers have them for 6 months+.
Sometimes they dont even sell, they take them off for a month and then readvertise them as new stock thats came in.
This is made worse for earlier models as the facelift got approx 10k worth of kit that was optional extra before.
Its all f
ked to be honest.

The other point to note is these are not 100k cars. They are not worth that price tag. Secondly they are heavily discounted. Only a mug pays 100k new for a bmw. They are going for 75k new nowadays so 3 years on if they are hitting 45k or 50k then it's not that bad.
Folks are aware of the pending new 6 series in 2018 and the awd m models. Both m4 and m6 cars lack traction which limits usability. Many m owners are unhappy about the direction of the M division.

Interesting thread. For some reason I'm really drawn towards this m6, love the San Marino colour. Even though it would be a financially awful decision to make and I find the 4 series to large on the road at times so no idea why I want this.

Also is the b&o stereo a good extra? I like a decent stereo. The hk in the 4 series is crap but I liked the hk in my e92.

No one wanted my 9 moth old M6 GC CP, not even dealers wanted to offer a fare price, I got it sold eventually by Pxing it against a new M3, private sales are none existent for some reason these cars loose so much money fast. Lostprophet said:
Why don't people want the M6?
It's a good question & one i've got no idea on the actual reason, but i guess given they're a depreciation nightmare would be a good starting point.Problem was the list price was £100k give or take, but BMW in their wisdom heavily discounted these from the off with discounts of £20-25k & 0% finance, so the OTR price new was substantially lower than the list price. They then continue to fall at a fairly high rate & thus are really hard to value as the benchmark base price was so variable. Even at £1k a month depreciation, it's a hard number for many to swallow or budget for alongside running costs.
Does make for a great bargain nearly new, but i fear most would be scared by the numbers.
I bought a brand new pre reg cabriolet in 2013 for £70k. Sold it 8 months later for £56k. Saw it at various dealers, first at £62k and eventually dropping months later to £54k list before selling, though I don't know what for. No one ever paid the list price on these cars, you would have to be mad to do so - you should get that number out of your head for negotiating purposes, consider it fantasy. Keep an eye on the dealers' stock and wait for the price to drop, let them know you are interested in the car but that you think the price is stupid and you are waiting for them to offer it for a sensible price. Don't go to them with a counter wait for them to show you a sensible price before starting to negotiate.

Biggest issue, brand - BMW does not have the brand reputation to pull off a car like this. No one could believe I'd spent that much on a BMW. Plus the whole 'you could have bought an x, y or z for that' - referring to premium brands like Bentley.Edited by sealtt on Thursday 6th April 10:17

sealtt hit the nail on the head - huge confusions with coming to a fair value; in my opinion they have priced these used cars more along the lines of 100k without discounts etc. Lostprophet said:

Also the brand is an issue, doesnt have the same reputation as say a porsche Panamera even if in my opinion its a much better car.
Well, if the M6 is being sold for £75k new and then after 1.5 years its being sold for £55k then thats approx £10k per year loss.
By the time it's 4 years old (i.e 2012) they are sitting around the 36k mark. Thats's a significant loss over 4 years.
What should happen is the prices should start to solidify as the 2008-2010 version is sitting around the 25k mark. It will still lose £5k per year from 4+ years.
It's a shame really the brand doesn't hold it's value well. The cars seem to shed money fast. I believe a similar thing is true of the M4.
