So after taking the M2 to bedford I have discovered the stock setup absolutely sucks. Fine for road use but i'd be a bit worried about doing a serious alpine trip. Uprated pads seem to be the first port of call (along with new fluid and maybe braided lines). Anyone changed their pads or running the bmw performance ones? All thoughts appreciated. Not gonna run the car as a dedicated track toy just want to be able to take it every now and then for a bit of a hoon.
Without being funny, how many track days have you done and how much tuition have you had?
If not I'd get some tuition. What you spend on tuition will be saved on brakes and tyres. I know for me a few pointers really helped.
Otherwise, you can try the old favourite Pagid RS29s which on other M cars seem to work very well.

Valid question, quite a bit tbh. Few track days a year and probably 10 test days (with tuition) + some racing. I'm used to brakes that work all day every single time you smash them. After a lap in the m2 at bedford west circuit (pretty brutal on brakes) gradually working up to find braking points I started to feel the pedal go to the floor so trying to find some pads that help a bit but don't squeal. (The pagid's are known for being horrific in this regard). Other options are maybe improving the cooling to the brakes with some ducts or slight mods. It's only for a few days a year so maybe ultimately I don't change anything other than fluid and accept i'll smoke a set of pads.
You'll be fine with Pagid RS29 pads all round & Castrol SRF brake fluid. I've used both (albeit the older RS19) on my 1M for years.
I've done many track days, including the full Bedford GT circuit a number of times, and the brakes never falter. When they squeal they need a few aggressive stops and then they are fine again.

hi there
Im looking at getting some ferodo ds 2500s
i have them on my Nissan GTR and they are superb and a good compromise for RS 29s which while better can squeal badly on a daily driver..
my m2 is a daily so im going the ds 2500 route first and uprated fluid.. im fairly confident they should be fine
I was at that track day (in fact I think I spoke to you) as I my GTR was on the 2500 s that evening and they held up well all evening no issues

Hi Peter, yes I do indeed remember. After some roundabout research I arrived separately at the ds2500 so think it seems like a solid choice. Have you found any pictures from that evening? Having no luck
there are some pics on evo's site..like your utube vid!-
Im doing silverstone in sept with goldtrack- and hoping to get the ferodos/ Castrol `SRF done..
im guessing the current brake hoses are crap too??

What is with bmw and crap brakes. my z3 and m3 have both been poor.
What brand of pads did you have? Only BMW sell the M spec pads. Textar make them. You can buy the correct Textar pads in the M spec but ECP don't sell them ; I guess they would be too expensive. From what I have seen the M-Spec Textars are near dealer prices elsewhere. The issue is that 330i pads fit directly in. I am on genuine BMW pads and mine are fine.
hi Sam
I had a track day last friday- bedford again. evening
took my M2-
booked the car in to have Ferodo 2500s and SRF
however my mechanic did not have time to do the SRF- so that was very annoying. and pretty much had me worried the whole day -
however it wasnt bad.. and Im pretty sure I was able to do 4-5 laps before the pedal felt a bit mushy..even then nothing
frightening.. so I think with some SRF also it really should do the trick (Im at silverstone in about 2 weeks)
As an aside.. do you know if the brakelines in the M2 are worth keeping or should be changed?
