Hi all I'm going to be ordering a new car soon, really tempted to go to Audi and get a performance pack RS6 but part of me wants to wait to see what the new m5 is going to bring to the table. What would you all do wait, or get an RS6 ??????

RS6 with a 15.5% discount. Great value in my mind. No new RS6 coming out for a while

I'd wait. M5 for me although I'm going to wait until a few used ones hit the shelves. Will hopefully find one with a private seller happy for a quick sale. Until then I'm using a trusty little 4 pot 5 series to potter around in. The RS6 doesn't really interest me anymore.

RS6. M5 has never got my juices flowing.

Saw a blue one yesterday and it was stunning and had a very commanding presence

Good decision to be made either way. Over 12 months I deliberated over M5, M6 GC, RS6 performance, RS7 Performance, M3.
The RS6 Perf was with springs and Carbon Ceramics, RS7 was air and steel. Very different drives. Both probably impressed me more than M5 but would have been v happy with that (I have never liked an Audi before).
So between those the specific RS6 was the best.
I then bought a Porsche Panamera GTS. The BMW is a great BMW, the Audi is a fantastic Audi. The Panamera is just so different. In my opinion it is a more subastantial car for the cash and very different. But then I have just got an Omega PloProff (Google it) and my wife says she is "worried" about me ! 😅

Are Audi dealers giving out 15.5% discounts on the RS6? PLO prof very nice/unique. Panamera is coming into my thoughts now, specially with the interior in the new ones in pics is stunning. Is the Porsche infotainment usable? Like to I drive standards??

The Panamera is a very special feeling car. The infotainment is not idrive but I realised that our Defender seemed ok with the phone's sat nav and thought I could probably cope.
The Porsche Info has what you might call "character" ! :-)

RS6 looks lovely and very quick from the traffic lights but for me it was very ordinary to drive (relative to what you're expecting) you're completely disconnected from the experience, it asks for nothing from you and you can do very little to add to the drive. It'll go round a corner quickly but it never feels neutral and biddable whilst doing it.

Some would see that as a benefit, if you do then great they are super motors and look great, but my M5 was so much more alive in comparison (yes it was a 2 tonne barge as well but there was clear water between the two in terms of feel), so I'd wait to test the new AWD M5 as it might offer the feel of an M car with the traction of the RS.

The RS will always win on kerb appeal though.

The current C7 RS6 has way more road presence than the F10 M5. The new G30 5 series does not look a huge step from the F10 - styling wise - so I would not expect the G30 M5 to have a lot of road presence either.

BTW: I think the modern iteration of M cars - M2, M3, M4 - are WAY too fussy with their styling. I would expect the G30 M5 to have similarly fussy styling with useless 'aero' add-ons.

The F10 M6 and F12 M6 nailed their styling perfectly in my opinion.

+1

I think every review I have read and watched from the motoring press has come to pretty much the same conclusion as you.
I think its the superb looks and the traction in adverse road and weather conditions (if you like driving fast in those conditions) that is the big appeal of the RS6 but it falls short of the M5/E63 in terms of driver involvement.

I agree, the F90 M5 with its optional 2WD/4WD maybe the answer for the OP?

I would not completely agree with the driving dynamics point. The RS7 with air and steel brakes drove very differently to the RS6 with springs and Carbon ceramics. It was very noticeable and I personally found the RS6 a real laugh to drive around the bendy bits. BUT you have to give it ALOT of welly to get it to be involving. The speed then was crazy and that for me was one of the things that put me off it. The specific RS6 that I drove reminded me of a giant 997 911 Turbo S

not directly comparable but i went from my c6 s6 avant back to an e39 touring...aside from straightline performance and a bunch of creature comforts the e39 was better for what we needed

when im back in the mood for a fast estate ill take the m5 touring over the comparable rs6. each time if scratched the vag itch ive been a little disappointed (this includes a mk4 r32 and the s6)

+2. Driven many C7 RS6's & although no taking away from them being extremely rapid, they don't offer up much in the way of involvement. For some this may be a good thing, but once you've finished giggling at the straight line speed, it got boring fairly quickly.

As for current RS6 vs. new M5, i'd hazard a guess the clue's in the title, that being NEW, as the tech, drivetrain & overall package 'should' knock the current RS6 into a cocked hat. Of course the C8 RS6 could address this, but the 2 cars have never been aligned with launch schedules so for me the new vs. old would give new the win, plus the AWD/2WD could be a proper giggle.

BMW need to release an M5 touring again, not sure what it is they don't like about that market place, they could even do an M3 touring

Considering how much BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz like to copy and watch what each other are doing the whole time. It staggers me that there's no F31 M3 Touring to rival the C63S Estate and RS4 Avant

A couple of lovely renders of one.

Closest is the 340i Touring M Performance which tbf still has over 300HP, but is a bit more discreet.

I'd guess it's simply competition. Audi have the fast hearse space covered & AMG compete there also to a lesser degree. Audi don't do Fast Saloons but BMW & AMG do & like Audi with Avants, i think BMW have the fast Saloon space pretty much licked with AMG taking a share.

The B7 RS4 was available in Avant, Saloon & rag top, however Avants made up about 80% of their sales with Saloons about 15% & ragtops 5%. The C5 & C6 RS6's were both available in Saloon & Avant, however the Avant made up about 70% of all sales. The opposite was the case with the E60/1 in which the Touring i believe only accounted for about 15% of M5 sales.

Agree to a certain extent, but it never seems to stop them making cars like the silly X6 & X5M that must be <5% of their SUV sales
