Back to the fold
Discussion
Unexpectedly I am back to the M fold. I'm a long term bmw nut (having had a e36 328i sport, an e46 m3, an e92 335i, an e92 m3, an e60 m5 and an f31 335d amongst golfs Caterham subaru and even a 911 turbo) but have lately settled in to family life with a golf r and an xc90.
Lately though the golf has left me numbed and was too nice to have as a run around so was thinking of replacing it. Bought a family members Renault trafic and I'm going to make that my run around and family camping do it all. So there I was wondering what to do with the golf when all of a sudden there appeared on my Facebook thread a local car enthusiast and old neighbours e46 m3 for sale. He had been trying to sell privately for 11k but hadn't managed. He had already ordered his new car so it was trade in or sell cheap. Sent the wife a screen shot from work and awaiting the expected answer of "no way, what about the new driveway, what about my new coffee table, thought we couldn't afford a holiday this year". Instead I got the reply "why not?" nearly collapsed in. Shock.
So two days questioning and the deal was done. Now need to sell the golf but that is in hand. So I now have a 2001 e46 m3 black on black with genuine csl's and just 77k miles on the drive. Known history but a few faults to deal with. Good bargaining chips! Drivers seat doesn't go fwd and back, air-conditioning needs an fsr replaced and diff is starting to leak. All reasonably easy fixes and fortunately sub frame is all good but will be keeping a close eye on.
Car will be low use daily clean runaround and toy. Will be garaged and long term plan is to get it near mint and keep.
So excited but am away at or for next two weeks. First job is sell golf, 2nd job is seats and ventilation system

As you know these are really great cars and (unbelievably) are still flying under the young timer rising price market - for those that don't know....
Once those little jobs are sorted, you will have a lovely beast. Great for pottering around, transporting the family (4 seats and a reasonable boot) shopping and of course opening the taps and getting that great straight 6 "singing!".
Enjoy

Forgot to mention he was going to trade it in so I got it for tarde in plus a few quid for his pocket. It was one of those bargain this weekend only before it gets traded in deals.
Those few quid, plus the knowledge it's going to a true enthusiast should still see him smiling , if not quite as much as YOU
Mine was tearing around the Welsh mountains this morning so I know how good they are
