Hi all - Long time lurker but infrequent poster on PH..... recently sold my E39 M5 after seven years of ownership. I’d planned to look for an E60 M5 next year but this has caught my eye:-

http://www.rosemountcarcompany.co.uk/used-cars/bmw...

Anyone care to pass comment on this car and wha I should look out for?

That looks great.

One thing - it says extended leather which means the dash is covered in leather instead of squishy plastic/rubber. From the pics /not clear it looks like non leather to me.

It looks nice. Extended leather was standard, it was 'Full Leather' that covered the dash so the description for this car is correct.

You'll have read it im sure, but the pinned topic on the M Power forum covers everything you need to look for out for really.

Nice car . Looks fine . Just like every car make sure the history is spot on , it drives well and is in good condition .
Lots of scare mongering with these cars. Mine has been fined for 3 years and it's just done over 100k .
But be aware these are not cheap to run fuel and parts are expensive but hey it's a v10 super car for .
Drive one , trust me they are epic

Thanks - Looks like RS250 has cleared that up:-)

Thanks - I've spent some time reading through that but will go back over things again to refresh my memory.

Any particular reason why rod bearings would make you nervous on this car versus another one of similar age and history?

That's what I'm thinking too - may as well climb aboard a V10 whilst they're still around to enjoy:-)

Rod bearings would be a concern on any car of that mileage without them having been changed. Mine were done at 70k and were down to the copper. Yes there are cars out there that do more mileage with no problems but that's the lottery you run.. It's an expensive problem if they spin a shell.

2k more and you can buy one like this, face lift with under 60k so you can add BMW warranty.

That first one looks very good, and the facelift does make a difference to the (perceived) quality of the interior.

Thanks Ant - food for thought.... I'll maybe just reign it in and wait until my funds allow the extra few £k to enable the addition of the BMW/Mondial warranty.

I loved my E60 M5 but was landed with a bill of 3000 euro within the first month of ownership for a failed clutch, which was covered by BMW warranty.

It is a temperamental beast and one that I would have a very healthy contingency fund for and/or a solid warranty.

So, agree with getting the best you can afford and with a Mondial warranty.

Its looks clean in the pics but has a bald outer edge on the one tyre pictured.

At 52K it's under the price hike threshold of 60K for a BMW Insured Warranty. Go for the pay monthly option to avoid the increase next year (assuming you click over 60K).

Don't bother with whatever cover the dealer is including as I'm sure it will be worthless.
