Hi,

Some good advise on my previous thread about the running in service. Thankfully I gave that car a miss and went for a 16k mile comp pack, and am loving every minute smile .

I do have one concern and that is security. The car is too wide to fit in the garage, and I've been reading nightmare stories about the comfort access etc. Can anyone recommend any 3rd party security? Looked at the disclok but thinking it would mark the steering wheel and might not fit around the paddles. Insurance haven't specified I need anything (tracker etc) but dont want a scumf****r to run off with the pride and joy.

Thanks,

Smuler

Thanks,
disloks should fit, I use one on my M3 cos it's too old for one of these it's a 2004, cars need to be 2008 onwards according to my local expert.

I was also concerned about security of my M5 Comp, which I purchased 2 weeks ago having read about the all the thefts with comfort access and reprogramming the security/keys via the OBD port. My car too has to live outside on my drive as i have other toys in the garage.

I have opted for the Autowatch Ghost (whcih was fitted last Friday) as I prefer to stop the theives from stealing the car in the first place, rather than focus on recovery once the car is stolen. The Ghost product is very good, with you haveing to enter a memorable code via the sterring wheel buttons and/or the radio buttons, before the car can enagage into a gear. On the F10 the car still starts without the code but as soon as its placed into gear the engine dies.

My keys also live in a RFID shield bag to stop the comfort access being amplified by theives. However even if they did have the keys they still would not be able to drive the car away becasue of the Ghost. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071KVWTYZ/ref...

I am also looking into a visual deterent to stop a would be thief from breaking onto the car and causing damage.

Also if you have an M5, join the "BMW M5 UK Owners club" on Facebook, people on there are very freindly and can give advise (and only people who have an M5 can join, so no trolling). Enjoy your M5!

Thanks Jixes, RFID case is on the way and I'll give Autowatch a call in the morning, watched a few videos and it does look good. For £399 its worth the cost smile.

As a visual deterrent, probably go for one of these on the drive https://www.barriersdirect.co.uk/bollards-c1022/te... not the best looking thing, but will definitely put off thieves.

On the home side, having a new alarm installed with shock sensors on the patio doors and CCTV watching the cars, even if they go for the keys, should get a good picture and the whole neighbourhood will know!

I use a disklok on my F80 M3 and use the cover that goes over the steering you can buy from disk lock, stops any marks. Auto watch Ghost looks good but I did read a thread on M3 Cutters that a Focus RS got knicked a few weeks ago without the keys and it was also a week after the Ghost was fitted. The rumours were that thieves have already found a way round the Ghost, not sure how true this is though.

Also bought some faraday cages off eBay to keep the key fobs in to stop the signal being amplified from outside the house. They are small pouches lined with mesh you slip the fob into, about £7 each.
