Collecting on Thursday. Do I need to check if the idrive has the latest update or would it be done by a bmw dealer as part of its prep?

Are these updates free or costly if it’s not up to date? What are the updates, just map changes?

Thanks in advance

Interstellar - contact Henweee on instagram. Or henry_ha@live.com

he is doing my car tmrw. I'm having a "CS flash" ie updating the engine / dampers / diff software to CS spec...less extreme than GTS but based on my reading, much better than standard. As well as updated OEM software on everything else. Also a menu of options you can choose eg. active sound off, auto fold mirrors on lock etc.

BMW dealers will only update software if you claim you have a problem eg bluetooth not working properly, and even then, some do it no fuss others dont.

Ok thanks. I am not looking to mod he car really but wondered if there were updates generally. Also I thought you could fold the mirrors off the key, no?

re mirrors yes, i'm just having it set to autofold when you lock...seems convenient

i'm not modding mine or changing the power - just that I think the main improvement in the handling and traction since launch - eg comparing a brand new std car with a std car from 2014 - has been software rather than hardware...so I'm just getting the CS settings applied. (most obviously limits torque in lower gears which helps traction)

An OBD flash with the CS engine settings will increase power and torque, the latest standard software will reduce torque and give the engine a more linear feel some like it some don't .
