I’m looking to buy a breadvan but interested in views and thoughts on values.

In terms of asking prices, they seem to have rocketed in the past two years:
- high-ish mileage Cars that were up for high teens / low 20s 3-4 years ago are now in the mid-£30s
- some of the usual dealers trying to corner the market for low mileage examples and puff up prices

However, it’s v hard to know the prices at which cars are actually changing hands.

Cars that are up for for £38-40k was sold for less than £28,000 in 2015 (according to the price monitor on the Z3M coupe forum.

Just wondering if anyone has bought or sold recently whether they can indicate where the market actually is.

I’m a genuine private buyer, ready to buy the right car immediately. Just trying to get some help to figure out what level is a fair price.

Fully accept I should be buying on condition rather than mileage, but any helpful views would be much appreciated.

I'm keeping an eye on auction prices - so hopefully a better indication of what they're selling for ....

Going by the last few sales, £25K seems about the right money for 'normal mileage' cars eg:

higher mileage cars, nearer £15K eg:
http://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/bmw-m-coupe-2001...
garage queens, you can add 50% onto that:

You'd save yourself upto £10K by going for a roadster, but I'm guessing you've already made your mind up !

That higher mileage one does have over 200k on it though. A great deal though - had been really well looked after.

Also worth noting that the S54's are much rarer- I think official figure is about 168 in RHD, so they are generally more expensive regardless.

The problem lately had been that as values have risen, the more suspect examples have been tarted up done the rounds here and there with prices fluctuating each time they appear.

If I was in the market (I'm not as I've already got one) I'd be looking at one that's been with the same owner for some time and as you say, buy on condition not mileage. I think you generally need to allow mid to high 20's to get a good usable example in a desirable colour, and over 30 if you want an S54 with less than intergalactic miles.
It's easy to spend over 40 though if you want a garage queen.

Thanks for that. Very helpful.

I’ve tentatively agreed a deal on an S54. It is being inspected on Thursday so fingers crossed it comes back positive.

Agree with your comments above. I loved the low miler at Classic Heroes, but sadly it was snapped up too fast!
