Setting up my new E93 DCT M3 Driving Modes
Discussion
Hi All, some advice please
I took delivery of my E93 M3 which is my first M Car yesterday and need some tips on the various settings, particularly the gearbox.
I guess there are two sets of settings to think about, the default mode and then M button mode.
For both settings, is there any reason why I shouldn't have the gearbox in the fastest gearbox mode in both settings. I like the quick changes of the DCT and it seems in normal driving gearchanges are smooth and fast in what i think is called S5, so why wouldn't I always enjoy that mode. when pushing on you do get the kick in the back but that's fine with me and will only happen very occasionally. Is their any risk of increased wear if you use S5 as your every day setting?
Next is the steering, I think you can alter the weight of the steering so interested where most people have theirs. I don't always think that weight = feel but haven't played with this yet and no idea how the car is currently set, so interested in where people leave theirs. I think I would like to try the lightest mode and go heavier if it feels too "loose".
For M mode I think I would have the traction control in Dynamic to allow a little slip, and I also think the power mode would always be on in all circumstances as why wouldn't you want a responsive throttle?
Next is EDC which I am thinking would be in soft mode for default and one click on for M mode unless on a particularly bumpy road.
After watching a too many YouTube video's I am a bit lost!

If it helps I do the following.
Start up D2 with everything else in comfort and I leave it like this until the engine oil is up to temp.
One paddle pull puts it straight into S5 and steering to sport but leaves everything else the same.
M button press puts everything into max attack mode.

That really helps actually. So when you start the car, if you pull the lever to the right twice to get it into auto then you can have almost 3 preset settings. Auto until warm, then switch to manual which will be preset to S5 and then M mode to ramp everything else up. That sounds like it ticks all the boxes. It also means when my wife drives it, she will just put it in auto and S2 for comfort driving.Start up D2 with everything else in comfort and I leave it like this until the engine oil is up to temp.

Above ^^ i do the same pretty much. Commuting i am mostly in Auto mode 3 or 4. 4 & 5 hang on to gears a bit longer and are generally a bit more aggressive. Mode 1 & 2 go straight for the highest gear as quickly as possible (and 1 also pulls away in 2nd). Suspension, EDC light 1 is actually 'normal' mode, off is 'comfort' and light 2 is 'sport'. I'm in 'normal' mode pretty much every journey with the M button changing it to 'sport'. Too hard for a lot of roads but the car feels amazing in this mode.

Power button is always on. Like you say, no reason to ever have this off.
MDM mode is great as it lets you slide the car just enough for everyday situations.. especially coming off roundabouts
2nd and 3rd gear they love a little slide. Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
