F80 M3 residuals
Discussion
Where would one see these going value wise in the long term.
Say I bought a 2016 example non comp pack car but in a decent spec. Immaculate low miles car with the view to keep it that way only adding a few thousand a year, how would it be expected to fair with depreciation?
Would it be fair to say in line with m3 models of past generations?
My last M3 was the e46 I bought at 4yrs old but it was already 19k so didn’t have too far to fall and has actually firmed up recent years to around the same value (now 14yrs old)
I also bought an e36 for £4K many moons ago....bargain!
The F80 I’m looking at is 4yrs old and £35k so has a long way presumably to fall before bottoming out.
So what’s the thoughts depreciation steady at 3-5k pa until 10k-ish?

I cant see an F80 getting to £10k for a very long time, perhaps never.Say I bought a 2016 example non comp pack car but in a decent spec. Immaculate low miles car with the view to keep it that way only adding a few thousand a year, how would it be expected to fair with depreciation?

The E90 isnt down there and I dont think has ever been?
The E46 is barely there now prices have firmed up a bit.

£35K to steep, cars not worth that at 4 years old, offer £29K/30K which is more like it IF it has FSH and emaculate. If not buy a much newer car for a few grand more.Say I bought a 2016 example non comp pack car but in a decent spec. I’m seeing e9x from around 12k up now. I’m sure they will rebound once they get a bit older and less decent examples are around. E36 and 46 hit the ground price wise, down to around £5k then fast forward to now only the best examples are what’s just left and worth good money.
I did think 35,000 was quite a lot for a 4yr old car. But then the price new for an m car is a lot more than it was 15yrs ago so maybe it’s all relative. I generally wouldn’t entertain buying any newer due to the steepest drop being in the 1st few years.

Actually looking on auto trader 200mile radius search for a 15-17plate m3 with under 25k miles and the one ive got under consideration is 2nd cheapest by 5 pounds. It also looks nicest without spending another 5-6k which would just to get me a 1yr newer car which it will presumably drop that amount within the next 12 months anyway so is it really a worthwhile pursuit?

It's your choice entirely , as your the one spending, if you think it's a good deal go ahead.Edited by Edible Roadkill on Wednesday 13th February 09:13
I just paid £41k for a Sept 16 comp pack M3 with 16k miles. Maybe not the cheapest but its in immaculate condition, with an individual colour and well specced. M3s (vs M4s) and Comp pack (v non-comp) carry quite a premium versus standard.
Re depreciation i reckon 15% per year should be expected

F80 M3 definately needs a strong colour. When I bought mine 2 years ago I was looking for Yas Marina blue but then changed my mind when I saw Sakhir Orange. Ended up with Sakhir Sakhir, deffo stands out. Only other colour I’d have would be San Marino Blue but 2 years ago they were few and far between as SMB was individual colour back then.
I do think low mileage very very high spec ones will hold their money a lot better in years to come, no different to any other previous generation M3. It needs to stand out from the sea of F80 M3’s for sale.

I think 15% decrease year on year is a fair shout. That’s 15% on it’s new value each year not from when you buy it.
Or £35k x85%= year 1 end value £29,750
Etc. So let’s say you keep it for 5 years assuming that consistent drop it would have a value of £15.5k so £19.5k depreciation in 5 years £325pcm.
Now add in financing let’s just assume 3.5% crudely in the whole balance so £102pcm in interest (or lost savings/investment return) £427pcm.
My car is currently running c18% average over best part of 5 years.

It’s a Sakhir / black car I’ve seen and I think it is my fav colour on these. I do think low mileage very very high spec ones will hold their money a lot better in years to come, no different to any other previous generation M3. It needs to stand out from the sea of F80 M3’s for sale.
