Have noticed people selling and coming back so many times and I don't remember this of any other car, any other examples?

Assume this is a rare thing as not many other cars have the lure like an e46. Had two, standard m3 and a CS

Sold the CS last July and fortunate to now be in a F80.

If it wasn’t for that I’d probable want another!

Having owned/worked on and driven extensively the following:

E28 M5
E24 M635CSi
E34 M5 3.6 and 3.8
E39 M5
E61 M5
E30 M3
E30 320iS
E86 Z4MC
E46 M3
E46 M3 CSL

Guess which one is the one I keep coming back to...

Sold my E46 M3 about 5 years ago, and have missed it ever since.

Been window shopping for a replacement for the last few months, and good condition standard(ish) manual cars are increasingly scarce, and on the rise in terms of value.

Would like another one, however I'm being lured in the direction of an E92, to scratch the V8 itch and continue my experiences of E36, E46, and then E92 models ......... the chance of an E30 experience is long since gone frown

My m car experience in chronological order goes as follows e34 m5 , 3.8 , e39 m5 , e46 m3 , e60 m5 , e60 m5 , e39 m5 , f10 m5 and now have an e46 m3 . Would have another e39 tomorrow but next will likely be an f90 .
e46 m3's are really good value for money .

That seems a mad price for a pre LCI with those miles and mediocre condition. Good colour though. I'm definitely glad I bought mine when I did. I think I paid 7k for a 2005 imola manual coupe with imola leather/HK etc.

Funnily enough I have had 2 previous owners of my M3 make contact and enquire if I'd be willing to sell.

I've been fortunate enough to own several E30 M3, an E28 M5, an E12 M535i and an E92 M3 but the E46 is the only modern (ish) M car I would want to own and use regularly now that E30 costs are so high. If money was no object I'd definitely have a brace of E30 M3 from Vink Motorsport but an E46 M3 would still be my daily.

The only downside is the cost of super unleaded and how good an s54 (with a CSL airbox) sounds at 8k rpm!

Just out of interest when was that? There's a definite premium being paid for Imola and Laguna Seca cars. There are still cars to be had for £7K but I think the majority certainly need work. Obviously the big / expensive jobs like RACP and main bearings have a big influence on price too.

Forget about a premium for Imola - at present there isn’t a single Imola red E46 M3 Coupe for sale in the public domain. One low mileage cab for sale with Hexagon for £27k and that’s it. How times have changed - from a slightly quirky colour - I love it and bought my new Z4MC in IR - to a rare and sought after one...

I've met and spoken to a number of E46 M3 owners over the 4 years I've had mine and time and time again I always hear the same thing after they've sold and moved on. They regret selling as they miss the engine and overall build quality and driving feel of the E46. It also has an iconic exterior design that still looks great even today, and if the interior has NAV (or OEM style Android unit), then the cabin is also up to modern standards.

I had the Evolve Eventuri since year 2 of owning mine and it's given the love for the car a new lease of life ever since. Cannot get over how nice the carbon fibre induction noise sounds and feels from low RPM as the revs climb.

With a bit of TLC, these cars can remain looking amazing for their age and mileage. I had mine since 62k miles, now on 116k miles. Can see why people can going back to them!

Bloody hell I didn’t realise that, that’s insane!

To answer the original question I bought mine in 2014!

It’s the only car that I’ve ever regretted selling enough to buy twice.

Don’t miss mine in the slightest and wouldn’t buy another. It was ok with a fantastic engine. Glad I had one but having way more fun in a cheapo EP3 Civic currently. Still, life would be boring if we all liked the same things!

I enjoyed mine but moved to an E92 which is IMHO better 95% of the time.
