Yes but not governed by a box in your car.

If you actually read the article (rather than reacting to the Wail's headline) you'll see there already are... press the accelerator hard or just switch it off...

More daily wail click bait. The third paragraph reads "The bill includes a raft of new safety measures that are now subject to the formal approval of the European Parliament and EU member states in September." So it hasn't actually been made into a regulation that's binding on member states.

Yea I know that BUT it's the thin end of the wedge again, speeding here is becoming as bad as Drink driving. I will disable it if I buy a car with it fitted.

It was all over Breakfast TV this morning, so it's coming, not for me unless it can be turned off, or I will buy a car from OUTSIDE the EU choking network.

Used car prices are going to rocket and new car sales plummet, especially performance variants, they can't just ban all cars that don't have them fitted. They seriously are unable to think things through, can you imagine the uproar at ferrari, lambo, even mercedes and bmw if this really is going through, it will be disastrous for sales.

Meanwhile, buy new in 2020/21 and look after it!

I repeat:

"The bill includes a raft of new safety measures that are now subject to the formal approval of the European Parliament and EU member states in September."

So it's far from approved and cast in concrete. I would expect various manufacturers will lobby quite hard.

I also find it laughable that the EU wants to reduce road traffic deaths to 0 by 2050 by throwing technology at cars. It's the drivers that are the problem. A fool with a tool is still a fool.

Why would it be disastrous for sales? Would you rather drive around in a Corsa doing 70 or a Lambo?

LOL.
I would not wast that money to do 70MPH in first gear in a Lambo.

This

As I said in an earlier post, who will spend money on any kind of performance car if this comes in? And actually, why would you buy a new car at all if you could drive around in an unrestricted car instead. The whole idea is ludicrous, completely not thought out and potentially dangerous. I voted to remain in the referendum but if there is another will definitely be voting to leave these lunatics.

It'll voted to remain, but they do seem to make it hard to keep that view. Saying that, out government will just copy all the eu rules anyway so I don't think it will make any difference.

Read the details.

Just turn it off like stop start or DTC. No great shakes really.

Sometimes it might be quite a useful function, especially at variable mway limits where it's easy to miss the constantly changing overhead signs.
