BMW M3 E46 cabriolet PDC fault
Discussion
Hi
I have a fault I can't get rid of but tried everything I researched. The cars PDC control doesn't active in reverse. I had the long tone and ran diagnostic reader and said that three were faulty so I changed them all. Reset the car and no faults but I still had no reverse aid ping noises. Checked again today on the reader and the bank right says it has a fault. They are all ticking and no long tone when I go in reverse.
I'm baffled, anyone had this before?

Did you replace with OEM or aftermarket sensors?I have a fault I can't get rid of but tried everything I researched. The cars PDC control doesn't active in reverse. Hi
Yes I did.
But just today I have swapped the one with the fault to another unit and put a no faulty one and the only working original on the right one after another. The fault just followed the one that was on the right to start. I have requested another.
Would there be a reason the right hand is the one to fail as it's the first from the board?

Sorry, I asked if you had fitted OEM sensors or aftermarket ones, which ones?Yes I did.

Reason I ask, I have been through multiple sets of aftermarket sensors on my M3. Believe me I tried diagnostics through INPA, all sorts of combinations mixing my working OEM ones with aftermarket ones, and aftermarket only.
Whenever the aftermarket ones were in the mix, the PDC just wouldn't work properly. I tried sourcing from different sellers too, the aftermarket ones just did not work. I got similar symptoms to yours, it seems the M3 sensors may be different somehow to normal 3 series ones.
If you used aftermarket sensors, just bite the bullet and get OEM. The OEM prices are ridiculous I got quoted over £600 for a set of painted ones on my E46 M3! Just get used ones instead. I bought a set of 4 used ones from ebay that were tested and working, now my PDC system works fine. I paid £80 for 4 that were painted same colour as my car Silver Grey. M3's are breaking everywhere right now so you will definitely find some.

Agree with all this. I’ve never seen any non gen BMW sensors that work.Reason I ask, I have been through multiple sets of aftermarket sensors on my M3. Believe me I tried diagnostics through INPA, all sorts of combinations mixing my working OEM ones with aftermarket ones, and aftermarket only.

Understood, I have three working and have complained to the supplier who is sending another. I will try it but if no joy well your probably right I must get original parts
I'd be very surprised if the replacement works, I tried 3 different suppliers. Hopefully it does, then you may have found a seller which can supply working aftermarket sensors for the M3!Keep us updated.
That's exactly what I did, I managed to find used set of 4 taken from a used car already painted which I bought for 80 pounds.
I just had a quick look there are loads on ebay, used genuine ones. They are sitting around the 25 pounds mark though, slightly more than the 20 pounds each that I paid for them.
If you want you could also try emailing the seller and ask him to give a better price if you purchase 4. Worth a shot, I would.
