Bought an M4 Comp pack!
Discussion
Hi everyone!
I'm a long-time lurker in this forum, but thought I'd say hello as (after much hunting and deliberation) I picked up my first M-car a few weeks ago: a 66-plate M4 with the competition pack.
Still getting used to it: I've had a few warm-ish cars in my time including Golf GTIs, an Impreza Turbo, and an Audi S5, so the M4 is certainly the fastest car I've had so far! I considered cars like the Cayman this time round, but with 2 kids the M4 seemed like a good compromise: it's practical enough that at least we can all go out together in it as a family (still also got a Golf for trips to the tip and putting the bike racks on etc!).

That's lovely. I've been casually looking at M2s but the M4s look like good value in comparison, esp given they have the same engine as the M2 comp.
Love that colour too
I'm in a similar position. Currently running a boxster and 130i. The boxster is ace but with 2 kids it's used as a treat for one kid at a time, or days out by myself, or holidays with my wife.
Would be nice to have an M4 or M2 so we can go out together, but not wanting to let either of my current cars go!

Nah, it's a silverstone interior (light grey) - it's just really sunny in that pic, so it looks lighter. I did see one with Opal white interior but didn't think it would survive the kids!
I wondered if the sun was playing tricks...Opal is ok if you look after it - dye blocker, etc. Mine’s remarkably unscathed after 7k miles.
Actually, you’ll probably want some dye blocker on yours too if you want to avoid blue seat bolsters from jeans.

Very easily cleaned off with Auto Glym Leather Cleaner. Opal is ok if you look after it - dye blocker, etc. Mine’s remarkably unscathed after 7k miles.

Yeah I've heard good things about Dr. Leather wipes / spray - so I have some on order for taking care of the seats (not arrived yet).Anyway, thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Happy with the car so far.

Only issue I've had is a little rattle from the rear on rough surfaces / speed bumps, which I wonder if it might be this: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

The wife had a late 2017 M4CP conv last summer. 6 mths old with less than 2k on the clock when we bought it. That had a loud clunking from the front left corner. BMW had it for an age trying to sort it. Pretty much ended up replacing the entire front suspension setup. Still clunked, they ended up trying to find us another car with the same spec, no joy after 3 or 4 weeks so they refunded us! Now she has an i8 which she loves. Still wonder what happened to it as they were all scratching their heads. Really odd, originally they thought it was the top-mount but 5 weeks on virtually everything had been replaced. As soon as there was weight on the wheels it sounded like a couple of rocks where stuck in the shields! Wouldn't surprise me if it went off to the trade somewhereAnyway, thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Happy with the car so far.

Just been out to the garage, and as per that thread (which I only found tonight), sure enough there does appear to be a fair bit of play between the pad and the caliper - especially on the right hand/lower side of it. If you push it up and release it, it makes a similar noise to what I can hear. Someone on that thread suggested shims which I might need to invest in (or just put up with it - now I've convinced myself it's no big deal I might not bother!)

You would have to be mental to let someone wearing jeans sit on your M4 seats. I have an M4 CP Silverstone/Silverstone. Nobody in jeans gets anywhere near it. Stuff dye blockers.
It’s a car. People sit in it. Jeans are a popular choice for leg wear so people in jeans do sit on my opal white seats. You say “stuff dye blockers” yet they do exactly what they say they do and, as a result, there’s not a hint of blue on my seats.
I’m intrigued, actually. Do you mean to say you, your family, friends, etc., never wear jeans? Or do you just refuse to let them in the car?
