M5 Competition with OPFs and aftermarket exhaust ?
Discussion
Chaps,
Has anyone in the UK, with an M5 Competition, fitted with OPFs, changed their rear silencer yet ?. Ive not heard, or know of nobody that has actually done this yet, and im wanting to hear what the car sounds like, after fitting. My choices are, Remus, AC Schnitzer, Eisenmann, or a rear silencer delete from Awe. TIA

Not M5, but I've just ditched the OPFs on my M2C with a Milltek midpipe and rear silencer setup.
Bloody marvellous!
Mike,Bloody marvellous!
How have you managed that, with a remap also ?. Its my understanding that if you do remove the OPFs, you will need a remap, therefore blowing the warranty ?.
I may get a CEL (yellow check light) but nothing as yet after 200 miles. It's like a 20 tog duvet has been removed from the exhaust!
OPFs are only monitored upstream for back pressure increase as they fill with soot they are not monitored for efficiency like CATs.
Yes a remap might give issues with engine failure type warranty claims but won't harm unrelated faults.
I gather akrapovic are working on a plug-in OPF delete box...

Ive been told that a CEL, and limp mode is on the cards if you just take out the OPFs without a remap to compensate. Its a bit of a mine field atm, and it seems to depend on who you talk to, to get a proper answer. Could you keep us informed of your progress with your car, on this subject ?, cheers buddy, regards, Simon.
I have an M2 with OPF's and went for an Eisenmann rear section. It sounds divine.

Yes, that does sound much better. So this is just a rear silencer change to an Eisenmann, and the OPFs are still in there ?. Are you from the North West, looking at your plate ?.https://youtu.be/he3tCtyUOtQ

The car came from Lloyds Cockermouth, my local dealer here in Torbay got it down here for me. Car was perfect in every way... but it should be as it only had 29 miles on it!
