.....what’s the most common root cause - pad pick up or seized piston? Or worn suspension components? Car is on 47k

Similar issue on my 1M. Seems to be pad pickup for me. Had to brake hard downhill to a standstill the other day. I had no choice but to stay on the brake pedal after I stopped so the car wouldn't roll forwards. I can see deposits on the discs and now there's a vibration under braking.

Can also be warped discs - I had two sets of warped discs during my ownership of my E91, and frequently had issues with deposits on them at other times causing judder under braking.

Braking hard from speed can remove some of the residue, and some specialists are able to skim the discs on a lathe if they are warped.

And worth checking the discs aren't simply worn too thin.

Thanks all - I’ll pop it in to a local specialist at the end of the week and report back the findings

Mine had a seized piston, but it was easy to locate & diagnose as the alloy wheel was significantly warmer than the others after a drive.

What did you discover?

I seem to endlessly be fighting judder on mine. It improves almost entirely if I do several hard stops in an attempt to burn off the deposits, but then slowly returns over time.

Warped fronts and sticky offside rear calliper.
