So I’ve stuck an order in for an M2 Competition and it’s Sunset Orange which I’ve ordered but I’m having a slight wobble in regards to the colour...

Has anyone here got/seen a SO M2 Competition regularly to judge the colour in the real world?

The colour choice isn’t great on the M2 Competition and I would 100% have gone for an individual colour if I could but it’s unavailable on the M2 production line apparently. Typical.

My thought process for my colour choice was:

Alpine White: Nice and fresh looking, but you lose some of the shape/aggression of the arches and gloss/reflection levels aren’t great post polishing.

Hockenheim Silver: Very similar to above, plus it seems to be the default colour choice for the M2C.

Black: Looks great, but keeping a black car in good condition is a hellish nightmare I don’t want to live with again.

Long Beach Blue: Nice colour, but ultra popular on the OG M2 and a bit overdone now.

Sunset Orange: New for the M2 Comp, looks great in bright light and direct sunlight but worried that in some more UK-ish daylight it’ll just look like a marginally spicy brown colour.

I’ve only got a few days until my order isn’t spec amendable... so I need to get this sorted both on paper and in my head!

For the record I have thought about wrapping the car, however it seems like a bit of a gamble letting people loose with your new P&J and I’ve yet to see a wrapped finish/reflections that I’d be happy with... apart from Topaz Skin, but I’m not paying ~10k to change the colour of the car, so that’s a non starter!! laugh

I drove a AW M2 Comp and agree with what you said, AW actually looked better on the OG M2 I drove just before although that may have been the OG had black wheels, the Comp had the silver wheels which I don't like.
I find HS looks washed out and sometimes almost white. It was the first M2 Comp. I saw, and did nothing for the shape of the car against the M4 it was parked against.
I don't think I've seen a M2 Comp in LBB.
Black I like , but I take your point. I'd choose it because it's my long term fave color.
On the day I drove a black OG M2, I passed a M2 Comp in SO. It was average light, a cloudy summer's day. It still looked good, a strong bright but no too bright, garish, or too feminine a color. I liked it, but I would wonder as I tend to keep my cars a few years would I go off it.

But if you don't want black, I'd say go for it. But get black wheels.

I had a black comp for 24hrs test drive.
The colour did nothing for me - lost all the shape of the car.
The LBB has been done to death, AW is just.... white.
Sunset and HS were my final two choices - sunset just wasn’t orange enough - looks more bronze.
So opted for HS - it does look white in certain lights, but when clean and sunny it looks great, and is exclusive to the Comp.

If it's any help, I saw an M2 Comp in SO and it looked fantastic. Probably the best colour, really stands out.

Love these cars but the lack of decent colours really is poor. The Blue is nasty turquoise, white a bit plain, black a no-no on any car, silver very plain, orange probably the best of a bad bunch.

Mine is SO (changed from LBB at the last minute). I previously had an M3 in Sakhir Orange. I have to say I’m very happy with Sunset and haven’t regretted it a bit.

Orange = brown when the sun isn't out. I have an original M2 in Mineral Grey which I really like. I think they look awesome in Black but a pain to keep clean. If I was getting another it would be LBB.

I had same issue - arctic white and HS don’t flatter the shape and arches, despite HS being a nice colour it n abstract. The lighter colours make it seem like there’s too much space between the wheels and the windows. Black camouflages the shape. I happen not to like orange cars so went for LBB on my comp despite it being done to death, in the knowledge that there are few other LBB comps and also it flatters the shape the most - particularly with ‘old school’ 437m wheels which I like more than the new wheels.

A few of mine. It’s bronze when the sun doesn’t shine.

Bronze with an orange flake

It’s not the sportiest looking car in any colour....

I deliberated this for a while myself but went with HS in the end (Sunset Orange was my 2nd Choice).

I really think HS is a lovely colour and very changeable under different lighting conditions. I think the primer Grey hue under dull lighting is actually my favourite. It's also exclusive for the M2C (for the moment at least).

I think you've made a good choice on the SO as well but where I live (Scotland) we rarely get sufficient sunlight to let the colour show on all its glory.

Had the same issue with my Tanzanite M4 which just mostly looked dark Blue unless it was a very bright day.

As someone who is on the lookout for a change into an M2, I have to agree with you.

However, I think it's the wheels which make the M2C look a bit "meh" and I prefer the original ones.

I had the original ones on my M3 5 years ago - I think they now look a little dated.
That said, the Comp wheels aren’t the best lookers out there but I do prefer them to the old ones (even though they’re a bd to clean...!)

Would be nice to have had the option of the M3/4 CS wheels.

The best colour by far is black but as you say, it's not the best to keep in good condition. Do they not offer the grey like the original M2 anymore? That would come a close 2nd and as the owner of a grey M135i, it's good at hiding the dirt when it's not had a clean in a while.

The original M2 wheels are a lot nicer than the M2C ones. I think you can still spec them on a comp though?

No grey, just blue, orange, black and silver

Thanks for all the opinions and pictures... but the upshot is, I’m still unsure!! laugh

I’ve swung between changing to Hockenheim Silver to Alpine White to Long Beach Blue and then back to sticking with my original order.

I have seen Sunset Orange on more normal BMWs in person and it looks nice yet not massively striking, however it’s tough to get excited about the likes of an X1 18d so I’m sure (hope?!) that on a more muscular package then it’ll be more impressive.

In the meantime I’ve phoned the dealer to see if I can bounce my order back on the production line, which they’re checking because I may be too late.. if so, then I’ll have had my decision made for me!! laugh

I understand your hesitation. At the bmw Sunday service there were 5 plus hs, 5 plus lb, 5 plus black m2s and only my orange one
