HI All

Now long do your rear tyres on your F10 M5 last? I've got 22,000 out of mine in 18 months and have around 4mm left. Looking at replacing before winter.

Generally very easy on the car. Be interested to hear from others.

Thanks
Rob

You must buy very cheap tyres or drive in a "particular" style.

Don't do cheap wrt the one thing that keeps the car on the black stuff.

SC5s being my most commonly used tyres on that car.

Don't do "particular style" driving. Don't get me wrong, I don't hang around but not a speeder either.

Well somethings not right, I got 25k out of a set of CSC5P on my F80 M3 and never get less than 20k from a set of rears, 10k in 530i is an awful wear rate, but probably down to driving style.

Personally, I never saw it as an awful wear rate, just part & parcel of owning a car that allows the use of good acceleration, fine handling & the enjoyment of the above.

At odds with the wear rate (which was pretty even by the way) was the fact that I pretty much never got significantly less than 30 mpg but then I also never changed my tyres at the legal limit, always around 3 to 4mm when the reduction in resistance to aquaplaning was noticeable.

Consistent with my experience with MPSS which I tend to see over 20k from.

I have found MPS4S to wear more quickly, e.g. 15-16k

Don't lie - I've seen you at McDonalds car park doing donuts...

Only kidding - maybe your tracking is a bit out, or you enjoy low speed acceleration out of the corners, where most tyre wear occurs.

I no longer have the car but did keep on top of tracking while I had it as initially there were some suspension issues with bushes.

However your assessment of my exploiting the seamless acceleration & handling is accurate. wink

As I said earlier, I always use top notch tyres & in my opinion they earned their keep doing their number 1 job well, that is to keep the car on the black-stuff, anything else is incidental and wear was never an issue to me.

I drive like Miss Daisy and I just had to replace the rears at c18k because there was a sidewall bulge (MOT), they measured 4.5mm left.

Everything on the M5 seems to last an eternity if you drive it gently, I thought I'd be buying new tyres every year.

I agree with the views on MPSS, mine lasted circa 20k miles and although I mainly do motorway, I’m not adverse to the odd bit of heavy-right-foot.

I’m pretty sure MPSS are made using some kind of black-magic. Grippy, good looking and last forever. Miracle tyres.

Going from Pzeros to MPSS was an absolute revelation, the car was actually usable in the first 3 gears! Now on PS4S & they are incredible, slightly better than the MPSS so far...

I went from Pirelli to Michelin PSS to PS4S. The PS4S was the best. Night and day between the PSS and PS4S in the wet. And that last even longer!

That's witchcraft, pure and simple!
