New M135i or new M240i ?
Discussion
Just been offered the above on similar priced leased cars
Not driven either as of yet, but heard nothing but good reports about the 3.0 straight 6 in the M240i.
Just a little bit scared of finding the 2.0 in the new M135i a little stretched and regretting it after having had the chance of the 3.0 litre.
Thoughts please?

Haven't been in the new 135 but as an m235i owner, I would definitely try the 6 cylinder as it's so refined compared to any 4 pots I've previously driven. Rear wheel drive, Plus the 240 will be quicker than the 135i so I know where my money would be depending on whether I wanted a coupe or hatch.
There are some threads on Baby BMW comparing the new 135 with both the 140 and 240 so it would be worth having a read there (look for the F40 forum).
Having had my 240 for 9 months or so, all I can say is that the straight 6 is its stand out best feature and possibly the best engine I've ever owned, Honda V4 notwithstanding.

B58 is amazing. I have it in a 340i tourer.
But as you say try them both and if the new 20l engine is still very good , then if your need is for a daily driver I think four doors , hatch and X drive offers a better overall package.
If you really have no need for such practicality and versatility , then it’s a one horse race.

It’s be the 240 for me because of the engine and the fact that I can’t abide the way the new 1 series looks (seen / sat in one).
The B58 with the ZF8 is a fab combo; happy bumbling along doing daily stuff but also pretty responsive and quick when you want to play. It’s not as special as a full on M car but it feels more special than the equivalent four pots.
The handling isn’t perfect but nowhere near as and as the internet would have you believe. Same goes for drivability in less than perfect conditions; like an RWD car with reasonable power it is a bit traction limited but it’s not going to kill you.
I get in fine with the F2x interior; it’s nit as snazzy as some of the latest cars but it’s functional and does everything I need it too.
The new M135i is fugly; the proportions are all wrong looking like a squashed X2 / 2 series active tourer. The new seats are nice though. The rest of the interior didn’t feel like the huge jump some of the reviews would have you believe. I certainly didn’t feel short change getting back into my M140i.
Hi and look at / drive the both and see what you think.

Having owned a M140i i found the engine and it being RWD as the best bit about the car. The sounds is great, it goes really well and if you drive sensibly on a long journey itll return 40+MPG easy
However, the rebounding issue was awful... over every bump and wave in the road the car would constantly rebound making it really uncomfortable. The good news is that with a set of bilsteins (approx £1k fitted) it'll be the car it should have been from the factory.
