Car cover for E46 GTR with Flossmann Body Kit
Discussion
LOL no worries. I'm leaning towards a Carcoon, then I don't have to worry so much about a snug fit.
I've just bought the car this winter ready for next season, but it's a pretty special bit of kit. Was originally supplied by BMW motorsport (i.e. born a race car). It's got special magnesium alloy suspension from early-2000s era BMW super tourers, plus 4 way adjustable dampers front and rear. The body panels are mainly carbon fibre, and the front spoiler, diffuser, rear wing are all custom manufactured. It's got a flat floor too, and according to the wind tunnel data, it produces as much downforce as a early 2010s GT3 car. Engine-wise, its still got the straight six, tuned to around 420hp. Big custom air intake, carbon coated exhaust, all sorts of other bits and bobs done. 6 pot brakes front and rear, plus it has motorsport ABS and TC (which is nowhere near as intrusive and 1000x more effective than road car ABS). It's got a sequential gearbox, driver adjustable anti-roll bars, air jacks, BBS centrelocks, quick refuel, 120L fuel cell... Too much stuff to remember. But suffice to say, it's an absolute beast.
Loads of pics and vids online if you google Webb M3 GTR (Webb being the car's previous owner).

Didn't the GTR have a 4l V8?
Correct someone needs to do there homework . Wills2 said:
It was a question....dear oh dear this place is becoming rotten.
Don’t take it personally- your question is a good one and yes, technically you are spot on. The original factory build GTRs did indeed come with a P60B40. However, they are like hens teeth found inside unicorn droppings... Many other respected teams build GTRs utilising the same shells, suspension components, gearboxes and electronics, but choosing to run a P54B32 or S54B32 in order to be in a different class... They are also called GTRs... Sometimes, money was tight and the S62B50 was used - funnily enough, that car was also called a GTR...
I also got wound up by the homework’s expert spelling of their

As a matter of fact, there are quite a few GTRs knocking about with P54 and S54 inside... But let the armchair experts slag off a very special car...
No ones slagging anything off , I’m know expert but I’ve successfully built a s85 stroker among many other engines, and I own 6 M cars in my own collection . Allso a real gtr regardless how rare (the factory build) has a v8 Pretty simple . Edited by Weekendrebuild on Saturday 4th January 23:54
You lads are correct, it's not a genuine GTR. There are still some that pop up for sale every couple of years, but you're looking at mega, mega money! This one is a BMW-motorsport supplied E46 M3 with a GTR-style bodykit and a lot of similar components, but it's not a real GTR (I wish!). As someone else pointed out, a lot of teams have suped up E46 M3s that they call GTRs due to the similarity, but the real ones are incredibly rare.
Anyway, this was a genuine question that I thought you lot might be able to help me with, given some of you may have M3s with aerokits. But sorry I asked!
For what it's worth, I've ended up going for a carcoon, so I don't have to worry about a cover that properly fits etc.

Dare I ask how much one of these costs?....
I paid £60k which is obviously a fair wedge of money, but it's a good deal for this particular car (it's quite a famous car in UK club/endurance racing and is arguably the best E46 M3 in the country). There are other "GTRs" (in inverted commas, for the pedants!) anywhere between 40 and 80k. Geoff Steel racing have a couple knocking about, and there was a nice one that got sold around the same time as mine that has a similar spec to my one. A few pop up in Europe now and then too, as they're a popular car in German endurance series like VLN. But all depends on the exact spec, obviously. There's one which is a true GTR replica (side exhausts and all) for sale for £170k currently, if there are any millionaires lurking! And there's a team I know that have been servicing and maintaining a genuine GTR that I think Gerhard Berger used to drive in ALMS in the early 00s, but I've not seen it out racing yet unfortunately. Going to come watch it if the owner decides to race it, it's proper hairs on the back of the neck stuff looking at a car like that.nate-dogg said:

Thank you for the nice background and update. Which series would you race her in? Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
