Gentlefolk, In the market for a second car to use on longer journeys, weekends etc now fully retired. we use a 225XE as a daily driver,. Have previously owned E28M5, TVR 450 Chim and Merc 2.5-16 as second cars. Thinking of either a Z3m coupe or E46 Alpina B3 3.3. Thoughts and comments please.

Cheers
Dave

Z3M Coupe any day of the week. The Alpina is nice, but for that wow factor, the ZM Coupe as per the correct nomenclature, is the only choice.

The Alpina handles a lot better than a standard Z3 M whatever it’s called. But it’s auto only.

How about a combination of both...a Alpina Roadster S (based on the e85 Z4).

I'd not consider the Z3MC for long distance duties. Its a fantastic car and the one i'd choose but id suspect the Alpina is a more relaxing car for longer journeys

If you’re tall/large you may find the cabin of a Z3 a bit tight.

Gentlefolk, many thanks for the thoughts and comments, It's the old old heart vs head as you probably realise, head says Alpina, heart says ZM Coupe. And yes we will be using it for longer journeys, including European trips. Thus, although I think I need to try both, the Alpina probably ticks more of the boxes. When we had the TVR we always used our previous golf to go away in.

Cheers and all have a very Merry Christmas and stay rubber side down.

Alpina for me. I went from an M Roadster to an E93 Alpina B3S BT cabrio and have not been disappointed. I wanted the space, comfort and performance for touring etc. Also a decent M Coupe will be expensive and you could probably get a later model Alpina such as an E90/91 etc. and maybe even later still.
