S55 Crank Hub issue
Discussion
Hi folks, I'm considering an M3 CP / M2 CP. After trying both out I'm leaning more towards the M3 as it's a bit more practical (I have a Mini JCW F56 and will be keeping it for everyday use).
I've been researching for any potential issues with the car and came across the Crank Hub issue and after watching a few videos on how this component can fail, I'm a little worried about it.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has this issue and I assume this would be covered under the M car warranty...?

Covered under warranty as long as you don't modify it.
It's very rare though anyway.
Edit: be careful to not buy a car which has been previously mapped, too. Easier said than done, though, because it's been known for BMW dealers to inadvertently sell on cars which have been mapped and it's come to light when warranty claims have been refused by Germany.

I'm assuming you could cover yourself here by getting the supplying dealer to put in writing that the car had never been remapped. That would shift the liability I would think - if you were worried. Minimal risk though I would imagine. It's very rare though anyway.

I only know of a handful of cars and thetas out of the many thousands that have been produced. Apparently the S55 in the M2 is fine as its slightly revised (backed up only by forum heresy so could be untrue)
Also unsure what causes it as cars affected have been modified, not modified both DCT and Manual.
I have had a crank bolt capture fitted to my M2 comp and its been fine with 560bhp.
eta I also run a F56 Mini Cooper S (not JCW) to go with the M2 - great combo!
