Looking for my first E46 M3 now that I'm officially having my mid-life crisis and like the look of this one but just wondering if it's reasonable or vastly over-priced?

Things that draw me to it are the CSL (if they're genuine) and other upgrades.

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The ad says the CSL bits are genuine, I have no reason to doubt it. It's no bargain (in my opinion) so it depends on whether or not you value that extra kit (genuine or otherwise). If you do, there's your perfect car.
SMG though, not everyone's cuppa, but ok if it has been maintained.

I’d say try a manual , to make sure , if choosing SMG , it’s best for you.
As for price , I think it comes to how much you value the extras. I’ve had my manual for nearly 4 years , it’s stock apart from a different stick shift.
I love chucking it around B roads.
I can’t imagine within the boundaries of my skill and opportunities on today’s congested roads I would benefit from any “upgrades”
Therefore I’d rather pay for same but lower miles , warranty , or less and slush fund for what will be inevitable maintenance on an old car.
If , as said , you’d benefit from upgrades , price is probably not that bad ; but maybe see if there are any similarly modded cars on m3cutters site , at least as a benchmark.

I wouldn't say it's overpriced but if it is a good base car you are paying c£5k or so for the modifications over an equivalent standard car. So I guess it depends if you really want those bits.
You could get a really good standard car for that money like the one below.

Very similar spec & history manual car was up for £12495.00 recently.

Wheels were reps but not sure it warrants a £7.5k premium for what might be genuine wheels and an airbox.

My view, I wouldn't spend that on a car with no mention of RACP repair and so many mods taking it away from what collectors want.

I drive past this every other day, it’s in the showroom and looks awesome from the kerb.

Thanks for the replies/advice.

I don't feel that the car I posted is too expensive - I calculated the cost of the upgrades and came to a figure of about £10k without fitting so there seems to have been quite a bit spent on it and from my own experience, people that spend that much tend to look after their cars. I'm not a collector/purist so having a stock example doesn't really appeal too much as I like to tastefully upgrade, which I feel that car has been.

Will try and get the registration to speak with the previous owner and Evolve to see if they can shed light on any issues that it might have/have had.

I guess it depends on what you feel you can afford as to whether or not its good value.

The mods will costs the best part of £10k if not more new.

As with everything, make sure it's a decent base car to start. i.e. boot floor, service history

When see a car with that level of body work modifications my first thought is it has had an unrecorded knock and repaired with parts of questionable history. I'd liked to be proved wrong.

I appreciate it's got some expensive mods, but mods just don't hold money on an E46 M3. Unless you buy it and you manage to sell them all separately.

20k is serious money for one of these. Personally I'd look for a very low miles normal M3 as a collection/concourse candidate, or a good CS for that price.

As an E46 M3 owner I always keep and eye on prices. The market has moved on the CS’s now - £20-25,000 and beyond for low/average mile cars is the norm.

I paid £12,500 for mine in October 2017 (which I considered to be a little rich).
Silver Grey, full history (main dealer and at the specialist I used for my E21 323i). Manual, cinnamon interior, short shift, genuine CSL alloys and boot. 85,000 miles - but concours in every respect (I viewed cars with lower miles that were not a patch on mine). I had it tuned at work and filter upgrade. It also runs on upgraded shocks and dampers. It’s stock (and looks it) other than that and not a million miles from the car the OP has seen (which I am also aware of). I’d pitch that car around the £15,000 mark (possible up to £17,000). The mods do not mean much I am afraid.... the E46 M3 market is now an investment market for the best cars and they need to be as close to factory as possible.

Sorry, forgot to add.... mine also has Supersprint racing exhaust back box (£1500). I wouldn’t value my car anywhere near £20,000.

Just 2 questions from me.

Do you need back seats?

Do you want an SMG box?

Last month I bought a manual Z4M Coupe with the same S54 engine on 76K miles that was advertised at £14K with H & R coil-overs, 19" CSL Reps, strut-brace and other goodies!

IMHO that M3 seems ambitiously priced - if I'm being polite. laugh

That seems very low for a Z4M coupe. High miles?

I don't think so - it's done 76K.

The seller paid just over £1,300 for the H & R coil-overs last September!

You got that car at a very, very good price. Take a look at other cars advertised. Nice one.

Thanks, that was largely what drew me towards it - the seller needed a quick sale!

It’s been listed on Autotrader since 15th October, if it was a good deal it would have been snapped up by now
