Opinions sought re engine failure (F13 M6 - 2016 43000m)
Engine properly serviced and maintained - engine cut out whilst driving 60mph - no warning - temperature normal - just felt like running out of petrol - no noises/smells/obvious signs. Recovered to BMW agent - told that engine is seized - could be £20k bill!!!
How are BMW at support of what was their flagship model?

If it's unmodified and under extended warranty from BMW, I'd expect they'll give you a new engine. If you don't have a warranty, you're looking for goodwill, and the amount you'll get will depend on the relationship you have with the garage it's at. If you've had it serviced on time at the dealer, odds are they'll do something for you.
If this is the first time they've seen you in a few years, you've got no warranty, and you usually get it serviced by an independent then you're likely out of luck...

Get the prayer mat out for some goodwill. Very surprised at that age & mileage; had it been using much oil? If you owned from new that I would think a good chance of assistance. If bought used and not bought through the network (or would have a full M warranty) I think you may be struggling unless you have a very good long standing relationship with BMW dealer or buying history.
Hi - Good luck upon getting this sorted. I have a 2013 M5 from that era and that engine. Brought privately and the first thing I did was purchase a full comprehensive BMW Warranty at £900 a year for piece of mind. These engines the S63 twin-turbo charged V8 are known to go pop. Great engine BHP and Torque but many are going bang. I wouldn't own one without a warranty.
I can tell you I know someone who was in a similar situation as you a few months back with the same engine, even with good will they still had to part with around 16k to get it sorted, but was better than the 25-30k original bill, but they had to fight for this discount.
My car is on similar mileage to yours and I have had it for 7-8 months, it seems to ask for engine oil top up 1L every 1500 to 2000 miles. Did your car require oil? Has anyone else got a similar car and require oil top ups regular? But i know if it goes pop I have the relationship with the dealer for many years and a full warranty to back it.

I did have it in my head the engine fitted would be around 25-30k, replies above quoting 16k seems cheap! I have an M6 GC and wouldn’t dream of running one without a warranty

A bit of a google will show you this can be an issue with these engines. General consensus seems to be that it happens if the car didn't get driven hard enough in the running in period! Something about seals not bedding down properly. BMW quote 1L every 1k miles is within acceptable tolerances but seems an awful lot to me. Mine needed 1L of oil after 6-7k miles of buying it and levels have been very steady since then.Edited by BM Man on Thursday 23 January 10:08
OP hope you get some serious good will from BMW - would not want to be faced with a bill like that...wouldn't dream of running mine without the warranty

I'm aware of 3 blown engines from failed injectors and 2 from spun bearings from various forums.I had Redish Motorsport do the bearings, I think it works out at about 3-4 days labour, they used my car as a template to build some special tools to do the job. Seemed silly not to do the injectors when I found the OEM Bosch ones for £60 each on Autodoc.

Those bearings look in good condition to me, were there any comments on them from Redish?
