Looking for a f10 bmw m5 to buy?
Discussion
I daily mine, it's a hugely competent car. Sort of wasted driving to work, but very comfortable doing it, excellent on a road trip - drove to Spa last year and it ate up the mileage.
I test drove several before buying a comp pack car. The non-comp car I drove was on Pirelli run flats which completely ruined the ride. By comparison, the comp pack (with harder suspension) rides far better on the standard fit Michelin Pilot Supersports.

Hi there just wondered on what peoples thoughts are on bmw f10 m5 as a daily & all rounder . What peoples thoughts on the comp pack . Any suggestions would greatlt appreciated . Cheers people !
Hi - here is my quick opinion, I have had mine for 7 months. I was after one for years and they finally made my price bracket I wanted to spend sub 25k. They seriously can not be beaten, power is immense and I struggle to contain the power. I think I only utilize 50 per cent of the power. Comfort and Luxury second to none. For me its a weekend car only as i commute to work on the train. You will not regret it and I think for 25k its the best super saloon on the market. They sell on spec though, these cars had a lot of options and I was looking for years. The ones which had most things ticked sold very fast from my experience, the standard ones took longer and some struggled to sell on the AutoTrader. OP what is your budget and what sort of spec are you looking for?
I would like 15 plate or newer or even a LCI if i can afford it . Spec i would like 360°cameras meriono leather i want to avoid white leather if i can , if the right f10 is out rear heated seats . Ive seen many that i like but as you say they have many options on them so finding the one that suits me is gonna be a challenge . Mileage wise sub 30k really colour black blue or that like metallic burnt red if you get me.
There is a nice 2016 sakhir orange on AUC and it has a good spec, but is 46k miles iirc. I tried pushing them for 2 year warranty but no banana when I tried. It has been for sale for months and has dropped from 32k to 29.9k. It's too far for me to take a punt so I never actualy saw it. Looks in good conditions in pics though.
I had the non-comp pack for 7 months, and TBH found it pretty boring to drive after you got over the ballistic straight line pace.
There is no denying its a boat and because of the weight really struggles with traction on anything but bone dry conditions.
Definitely go for a facelift (the pre-facelift steering wheel looks like something out of a 90's 7-series), the sports seats and I think maybe the comp pack is the one to go for to make the drive more dynamic.
I had an E92 M3 before the M5 which I kept for over 4 years, and now in an F80 M3 for the past year which is a more enjoyable drive than the M5, particularly if you are after a weekend drive.

Had my LCi comp pack M5 3 years now, and covered 40k miles in that time.
It is simply the best car I have ever owned. It does everything, and it does it brilliantly. Chuck all your ski gear in & a couple of mates, drive to the Alps & back, in total comfort.
Fill it full of tiles, tools, bags of plaster etc & use it to cart house crap around.
Jump in it & do an off the bat 2800 mile euro road trip, a handful of ring laps & the Stelvio pass etc..
All whilst being an absolute pleasure to drive. It handles like a much smaller car, will see off most things this side of a supercar with relative ease, and you can drive it like an utter hooligan if you so wish... Or you stick it into eco/comfort mode & shoom along at 100mph in near silence.
As an all round car there simply isn’t anything better on the market.
Don’t scrimp on spec. As a minimum, you want the LCi model, comp pack, 360° view cameras & the multifunction sports seats.
Spend the extra & go BMW used approved with a solid warranty that you can extend, they are expensive to fix & you can run the car with a clear mind.

The F10 is such a great all-rounder. I've got a non-comp 2012, that I've had from new. Loaded with options. It does everything - commute to London, school run, or tearing up the autobahn or country roads. I should really get rid of it to try a different super saloon, but just can't bring myself to do it.
I've been running an AUC non-comp for 2 years now as a daily driver.
Although I've had a couple of non-M related generic F10 faults (under warranty) its been a great car.
Best bit: It's as cheap as any other used big saloon I've ever run and the important bits are far more reliable.
Worst bit: The party piece of being ridiculously fast needs ideal conditions and is a bit 'go to jail do not pass go'
Mines worth about 18-20 grand now with its 46k. Its an incredible bargain for that, as long as you factor in the must-have warranty. I'm curious how low they will go in time. At higher miles the warranty goes up, but even then anyone who has run a saloon that was originally expensive would probably find the warranty a bargain compared to fault routlette.
I imagine if you bought a lemon the experience could be very bad. Reading through this thread I'd personally put condition and history above spec when choosing. Maybe I'm just bitter because I don't have the fancy seats.

If you want a fast daily they can do that, the problem for me is that they lack any real character, I had mine less than 5 months and sold as I just didn't find it that special. I've picked up an e92 M3 which is much more entertaining and considerably cheaper to buy. Still a great daily but the engine and handling is so much better, it's far more of a driver's car that can do daily duties well rather than a big old exec barge with a massive turbo engine. I'm a huge M5 fan but the F10 gen is not the finest sadly.
I’ve owned M3s (E46&90) M5s (E39,60, 2 x F10) AMG (C63 and E63), and a few errors in between (335, X5 )
The f10 is the only car I bought twice because It’s the best daily driver of all of them. (Best on track was probably the e60 but the gearbox was a liability) The comp pack which is more different to the standard car than I could have imagined. Perfect daily driver, but I would always have a warranty... motor Easy paid out (eventually) for a bank of injectors and plugs on my standard F10... kinda recommended, but it was hard work getting the car fixed and paid for through them...
I traded it almost immediately after for an AUC LCI CP with 2 year dealer warranty .. very happy with it.

I had the opposite experience. I found the M5 CP I had with MPE, always felt like an event to drive. It was luxurious, comfortable and incredibly powerful.
It sounded fantastic (MPE perhaps?) I also kept it 5/6 months as I found it too stressful around smaller back roads as its a big ole car! I wanted to keep it looking immaculate. Way too much worry in the end.
The E92 M3 CP I had lasted about 2/3 weeks!
I found it heavy and cumbersome, dim witted and with a muted V8 . Only coming alive at silly speeds and even then still not as fun as the M5 for me. I know the M5 is heavier then the E92 M3 but it had huge amounts of torque to make its weight a non issue in terms of get up and go.
The E92 M3 did however, follow shortly after I sold my 981 BS, which was on another level dynamically to it. That 981 was the longest I've kept a car.
As a great daily driver, F10 M5 over E92 M3 for me every single time.
