Look, way out there, is that an M3 on the horizon?

The wife has finally green lighted a purchase. Hard work I tell you.

Anyways, I asked a few months back about comparisons with an Evo, the replies were not good, but very informative.

Regardless, it's an itch that needs sorted.

The comp pack is the one to go for? I read that earlier non CP F80s can be a bit twitchy at the rear end (handling - not power) Would you all agree facelift CP is worth the extra? It's my favoured.

Would PH be interested in a buyers guide for M3's? It would help.

Are stock brakes that bad? Previous gens seem to indicate this but the F80 finally seems to have a decent fixed caliper?

I'd be looking around summer for a potential purchase and the sale of our Audi.

Please ramble away with comments and thoughts,

Thank you.

We had an early M3 (Oct 2014)
I found the ride really crap no matter what mode it was in, and traction was an issue in the wet unless you were going really slowly...
I believe that was somewhat sorted on the Comp cars though.

In the 3 years and 36k miles we had it not a thing went wrong.
Apart from stones caught in the rear disc shield, but most of them do that.
Was fairly economical on a run too.

The early cars were more aggressive at the bottom end and later ones were mapped for more progressive torque delivery.

You get quite a bit for your small extra outlay with the CP. The seats and wheels are better (in my opinion) the suspension is better, the diff' is better, the exhaust is better, the black exterior trim looks better, etc, etc. But note a late, non-CP car might have the suspension and diff' changes.

The brakes are absolutely fine. Unless you're working it hard on track I doubt you'll get near to their limits.

Thanks for the input.

I do intend tracking the car, more of a see how it compares to other cars I've tracked than a seriously regular toy. Ultimately this is the family car.. Upgraded pads fluid should take care of that.

CP pack it is (you both pretty much confirmed what the net says - thanks)

Exhausts - All I have to go on is Youtube etc. Not ideal but ok. I could fork out thousands on an Akrapovic etc but the MPE seems to sound ok. Something with a bit more burble without being too offensive. Fair?

I've had a bit of a read up, mapped cars crank hub seems a thing be aware of (as noted on a thread here). Any others?

Thanks again gents.

I'd agree regarding the exhaust but note that the standard CP pipe isn't quiet anyway, though!

I can't really think of anything much the F8x models are prone to other than the crank hub, and that's a rare issue itself which in fact has been known on standard cars, too.

Actually, perhaps the turbos though are another possible slightly weak area. I only mention that because a few people have suffered seal issues and had turbos replaced as a result.

They really are pretty good cars for reliability.

I'd strongly recommend popping over the M3Cutters forum for more in-depth knowledge.
