F10 M5 Oil Consumption
Discussion
Hi all,
I know oil consumption issues have been done to death but In the last 2 years I have done just over 10k miles on the M5. Ive had to top it up twice with 1L of oil. The first time was after 6.5k miles and then again after only 3.5k.
I know BMW will say its in specs but Im a bit worried that the interval has reduced so much. It may be that ive been doing a lot of short trips over this winter and not driving it so hard. Theres definitely not drips to indicated a leak in the garage.
Anyone have any thoughts or concerns about it - Its going in for a service and MOT next month so I planned to ask but if it seems like a problem I will push them a bit harder on it rather than just accepting being fobbed off.
Many thanks everyone.

Mine went from needing a top-up at about 12k quite consistently to suddenly needing one every 3k or so.
I had blocked breathers replaced but the consumption came back soon after. I don’t see any signs of leakage either.
I just buy top-ups inexpensively online, always have one in the boot and accept that as it’s suffered some wear it’s started using oil.
