Seatbelt slow to return

Any ideas on how this can be fixed or is it case of replace? I've read someone suggesting pull it all the way out, clean and the spray the seatbelt with furniture polish. Not convinced on that one.

Car is a 1998 E36 M3 EVO

It's mostly down to dirt/mold on the belt, that's slowing down the return.
Give it a clean with some APC first, and see if that makes a difference.

Can't help but think some of the contents of that spray are going to end up on your clothing?

Its the passenger side, none on my clothes I intend to try and clean the belt and then only add silicon to the bit you never see anyway
