Long story short - I'm thinking about rationalising my 'daily' and my 'toy' into a single car, as I've gone from driving >20k miles a year to about 3 - 5k miles a year. The M4 is looking like a good option, along with the C63...

We live in the middle of nowhere, our roads don't get salted or cleared in the winter, so winter tyres or all seasons are a must on the 'daily'. I've just been looking at BlackCircles, and don't see any options for Winters in 18 or 19 that will fit the rear of the M4. Does anyone know if such a thing exists??

You can't beat the guys at Camskill. Just drop them an email and they'll typically come back with a good answer for you within 24h.

I've found them very knowledgeable, entirely trustworthy and great value over the years. No relationship, just a satisfied customer.

Thanks, will give them a try. No winter tyre availability = no M4!

Why not buy a set of spare winter wheels. You can always sell them after you part ways with the M4
and you wont have to worry about scuffs and minor damage.

There's a new complete set at Williams Stockport parts department with winter tyres on.

Sounding promising. Looks like it was just a BlackCircles issue smile

Now to find an M4 to test drive, and compare with the C63....

Yes vredestein make performance tyres up to 20".
I've got vredestein quatrac Pro's on 19"s on my 330ci.
Very good tyres. Not had to properly try them on snow but in the small amount of slush we had last year they were absolutely fine.
Got them from Camskill.

I would check with BMW what they recommend for winter tyres - looking on the website as best I can tell they appear to suggest square setup for winters rather than staggered which may alleviate your problem with finding rear tyres. I know on my M5 the winter wheel recommendation is a square set up. I would also strongly recommend a second set of alloys - swapping tyres over on the same set of alloys twice a year seems risky to me.

I had read recently that tyres aren't designed to be taken on & off multiple times. Besides, it's expensive.
Anyhow, the square set-up statement is spot-on - and on the M4, BMW state 255/40-18 all round, or 255-35-19 (as the 18s won't fit over the Carbon Ceramic brakes).
As the tyres are narrower than the stock rears, BMW will sell you a narrower wheel with the appropriate offset - so whilst the wheels and tyres are the same diameter and width all round, the offsets are different from front to rear.
HTH.

Good info - thanks folks.

I haven't managed to test drive one yet, although it's got some way to go to beat the C63 I tried out at the weekend...

I have a set of alloys (not BMW) but f80/83 fit with winters on. Just about to list on eBay as I no longer have the car. Transformed the drive from my 666’s with SS tyres but you still can’t drive like a hooligan!!

I have Michelin Alpins 19 in on my M2 in the normal sizes, not sure if the M3 rears are the same, think mine are 265/35/19

I would be inclined to buy a full set of winter wheels and tyres brand new from BMW whilst they're as cheap as they currently are.

Around £1,100 instead of £3,200+ at the moment.

You need a pair of each of these:

Bought wheels from Tyreleader and tyres (Goodyear Ultragrips) from Camskill for my old E93 335 , they also fit my 440i, around £300 less than buying elsewhere and £1200 cheaper than BMW, impressed with both suppliers..

Indeed. I paid more than that for some smaller, cheap unbranded alloys and a cheaper brand of tyres, years ago.

(In case the price goes back up, the links are for 19" x 8.5" and 19" x 9" BMW 641-M wheels, with Continental Winter Contacts, including tyre pressure monitoring systems, at £1,111 for the full set.)

That is a bargain .. tyres alone are about 800 quid for a decent brand.
