New to forum but have been lurking for some time.

So I placed an order for a new M5 towards the end of May and was informed by the dealer a couple of weeks ago that the car would be in the country this week.

Had a call from the dealer earlier today stating that BMW has a "campaign hold" on a number of cars right now due to an issue with cameras and that "new vehicles must not be handed over to customers".

The dealer is now saying that the car cannot be handed over until August but will not commit to a date.

Is anyone else experiencing delivery delays or have any insight into this issue?

I've ordered a new M5 comp that is in UK stock already. But my dealer has said that it needs a tech service and poss something to do with Cameras. Hope that doesn't mean a delay as I'll just cancel and buy a nearly new one instead.

Although that may only be a couple of weeks away

Please keep this thread updated, as i'm keen to know what the issue is as my LCI M5C is only a few weeks old.

Is a major (largest one BMW have ever deployed Over the Air) software update available for the F90 M5, but for some reason my car isn't accepting it & i know updates to Camera settings (although i believe the video capture cameras rather than autonomous driving ones) are in this update.

Tried to download & install this update several times & just keeps hanging, so will need to get the Dealer to install next time i'm local.

I'm digging but I'm assuming they have a know issue so can't deliver a new car that they know has a fault. I'm also going to assume its not a serious issue
I've flagged this with my dealer.

Be great to get an update if you can get any additional information from your dealer. Given that my dealer has told me not before August it looks as if the issue is going to take at least two/three weeks to resolve, based on that information I make the assumption that there is not yet a fix/resolution.

If its a hardware issue they may have to manufacture replacements and ship.

If I get an update i'll post it

My car 2020October build, just updated it's self three weeks ago, the sat-nav screen would not auto full screen before this update, it does now after only a minute or so, not noticed anything else changing, my new LCI Ultimate car arriving September/October time.

My new M5 LCI order for September is put back to October, not sure why, they asked IF wireless charging pad delete would be a problem to me (I have the Ultimate pack) I said no not using that much at all.
That may be part of it.

Note it's not just a wireless charging pad as you need this for the 2 virtual key options (granted you may have no interest in this either).

The charging pad identifies either your mobile (Apple Wallet holds a virtual key) or a Key Card (basically a BMW credit card shape/sized wallet key).

When I ordered my LCI M5 back in May I was told that the wireless charging would be deleted, didn't think about the virtual key not working.

Still have no further updates from the dealer on when the "campaign hold" will be lifted

I guess i should have caveated that perhaps BMW 'are' removing wireless charging, but retaining the Virtual Key some other way.

Mine's an April 21 LCI (although was built in Dec 20).

Would be odd for BMW to remove Wireless Charging however as most Mfctrs are moving to wireless rather than wired for this & CarPlay etc.

Am also sure in the Bimmer blurb that the wireless charging mat is linked to an external ariel, thus enhancing mobile signal in the car.

I have a sept 2020 LCI which I purchased earlier this year - per others, I had an over the air update - in looking at the install notes, it seemed to be incar entertainment related. I downloaded it on to my phone first and then on to the car - worked fine.

What I have noticed is that BMW has sent "Over the air" updates and undone some of the "coding" I had done - e.g. last known memory for stop start, video in motion - all gone.

Had some further communication with the dealer today, but am still very much in the dark (the dealer appears to be in the same position!), the response from them today is as follows:

" the hold is for "checking installation of camera" this is all it states on the campaign hold, and unfortunately I do not have any further information with what this actually means, or when we will be able to deliver the car.

My sales manager is speaking with BMW to see if he can find out any further information, especially about the date we can expect the car to be with us and then handover to yourself."

Clear as mud ;-)

There is a recall in the US as a small portion of the rear camera view "may" be obscured.....

FFS just give me my car.

Typical OEM rather, as the dealer is restricted by the poor communication they receive from BMW.

Still no real update from the dealer.

The delay has got me looking at alternatives though.

An M8 convertible, whilst more, more money it does offer something different. We've an X5 45e if we need to take passengers long distance and the M8 looks proper "M" like

I went into the dealer yesterday to see if I could get some additional information. The car is still on delivery hold but was able to get some further insight.

It would appear that there are a number of cars that have been built by the factory (not only M5's) that may not have the surround-view cameras fitted. Each car has to be checked physically to see if these are in place and working and if not they have to be retro-fitted. (which is then subject to parts being available, which are in short supply due to global semi-conductor shortage).

It looks as if the factory has kept the production line running by sending out cars that are not complete.

Bottom line from the dealer, the car could clear for delivery today, tomorrow, in the next two weeks etc. etc.
