I’m looking at a demo M4 some seem to be hanging around dealers for a while, also they’re a very rare sight on the roads I think I’ve only seen 2 since they were launched. Are there not many people buying them or is it just me?

Yup I haven't seen that many on the road. I know looks are subjective but according to people who know someone in BMW sales its been a slow mover.

I've only seen one regular G80 4 series in the wild.

Could be wrong but it doesn't appear to be a massive sales success.

Like all new cars, the chip shortages are preventing BMW from building them. I've also heard there are a fair few in ports waiting for parking camera modules.......

It is weird because around me I hardly ever see a nice performance car(I used to live in Cheshire where it was a nice performance car spotters heaven in comparison), yet I've seen five G82 M4s around my way already! Someone must be doing a good deal on them I reckon.

ETA...make that 6 now because I've just seen another one on the school run!(it sounded good too I thought). They must be giving them away where I am! biggrin

I ordered my m4 in April and its been sat in the vpc in Southampton since the 15th July due to a parts shortage

Thats why you don't see them on the roads

I got a good discount when I ordered but those days have gone and few dealers are offering anything on them and I suspect discounts will be needed to shift them in large numbers

I quite like the looks, just wondering if I should pull the trigger on a 21 plate, there’s on I’ve been keeping an eye on in my spec preference been sat for nearly 2 months at a main dealer. The parts shortage has increased the prices on used models of other brands.

I like the way they look as well, and for me they have a nice presence to them on the road I reckon. My plan in the future if I have the funds is to swap my F82 M4 for one for sure.

What didn't help was when I got the M4 in March, there was a G82 M4 driving out of the showroom on the same day, and the new one made the old one look quite ordinary(dare I say old fashioned if you know what I mean) in comparison I thought.

My dealer lent me their demo for the weekend which allowed me a much more in-depth test than the 30 mins test drive allowed but confirmed my first impressions, I did almost 500 miles in it last weekend

In short - Incredibly planted for a rwd car, I barely managed to upset it and I tried, gearbox is great, engine has so much torque and feels more like 600hp than 500, its effortless pace on fast A roads, also good on fuel , we got 26-27mpg driving briskly and 32 on a short motorway cruise* which is about the same as my F22 did a steady motorway cruise could well return high 30's . Tech is on another level and wants for nothing. Super refined and comfy and when in comfort very easy to live with

Downsides - its far too quiet (Like all opf cars) , the wheels are incredibly easy to kerb, i did but both nearside wheels were grazed and I almost did - twice, the lane assist is grabby but in fairness i dont like lane assist anyhow and brakes are hard to modulate at low speed like getting in garage and its a big car

  • did 480 miles and used 16.6 gallons so c29mpg average

I do think they look better in darker shades , I have ordered this combo

Are they now all “X Drive”? I seem to remember reading that July was the release for the updated model, or is it optional?.

I prefer them in the darker colour, I’m not too hung up over the front either, but sadly they are well out of my price range new, in fact also secondhand F82’s are, should have got one when I had the chance earlier in the year frown

I believe that Xdrive is still optional and they come as RWD as standard. I personally quite like the idea of the M Xdrive version because you can still switch it to RWD only if you want. So with the M Xdrive version you have the grip and confidence of the 4WD system in the wet, but you can still have fun in it sliding around in the dry if you set it to RWD only I reckon.

I agree the front grille is looking more attractive daily.

I am in a BMW dealership and I somehow prefer the front end of A Brooklyn grey G series 430dxdrive to a black 840i. What time does to us?

I think the white one looks really good and wouldn't have said that a few months ago.

I actually went into the dealership to look at the 440i and ended up ordering the M4 . I'm not a huge fan of the grille on that either but I'm sure the aftermarket sector will come up with something in time , they did with the f series

I had a m4 demo a couple of months ago for nearly a week , and it persuaded me to stick an order in, threw the kitchen sink at the options and managed to get circa 15 percent off , cars built, and on a boat over here now, taken probably 3 months by the time it’s delivered .

Echoing what others have said , I was ‘thorough’ during my test drive and came away thinking it felt very composed for a 500 bho rear wheel drive car , getting it to break traction took quite some effort . The carbon seats are some of the most comfortable I’ve sat in , just fit me really well and had everything I could want interms of creature comforts .

M4 X drive
All Black
Black interior with the carbon pack which includes the seats
Think I ticked pretty much every option bar the carbon ceramics

Will post up some photos when it’s delivered in the coming weeks.

You can also get the BMW Park Lane Forces discount if you are a member of the IAM - it appears to be the best deal currently

I personally think these will be discounted more if you are prepared to wait.. It happens to every BMW M car and this will be no different ... or if not discounted the APR will move from 3.9% to 0%

Ill bide my time to see what happens
