Hello All

Sorry about this as Im sure this has been covered a thousand times before , so please humour me .....

I own a 2013 M3 e92.
Alls good .
I have had it four years , I have done 16K miles and the total milage is now just over 51K.
As its a later M3 , Im led to believe the issue with the big end bearing has been solved.
Q1 - Would you have the bearings done anyway ? Peace of mind and all that.
Q2 - Im also led to believe if I was to get the bearings done , I would also consider having the Engine Mounts done as well , as a matter of course .

Any thoughts / comments , please ??

FYI - I really like my M3 , no idea what I would replace it with and , Im a mature driver , who treats this car very well.

Thanks

They weren't resolved as part of LCI, they just had different bearings.. As for engine mounts the Internet suggests they could be worn from as low as 40k, if you're skint then you could always check them whilst you're doing the bearings, only adds £100 or so to do them

I bought a Z4M in December 2019 and had the same quandary as the S54 engine they share with the E46 M3 has a similar reputation!

As I didn't know much of it's history, it had 7 previous keepers and I bought it as a keeper after 6 months I bit the bullet had had them changed at 76K miles. I was glad I did because at least half of them were worn down to the copper. I had new engine mounts fitted at the same time because changing them also requires removal of the front cross-member so might as well have them done at the same time while it was off for the shells. I imagine the same applies to the E9*s, and my old mounts were in a terrible state anyway. rolleyes

I don't have any experience of the S65 engine as fitted to your car other than what I have read, but 51K does seem quite early to me - hopefully someone more knowledgeable may be able to offer some advice.

Maybe it depends how long you plan to keep your car - if it is a keeper maybe it's worth it for the peace of mind. Good luck whatever you decide. thumbup

Q1 - For the cost it is a no brainer and plus then you know that on the new bearings you have always warmed it up to temp because they have only been in the car during your ownership.

Q2 - Yes absolutely worth doing, you will be able to see the condition of the old ones and that will show you that you were right to do it.

Mr Tidy and Leon R have summed it up nicely.
I will get the big end bearings and the engine mounts done at the same time.

Thank You for your comments.
