Am considering buying into a F15 X5 50i but as prices of X5M in the same shape don't seem to be much more, I may consider these if they wont mug me on running costs?

I do however have a specific requirement in that I need it to tow, and none of the usual UK resellers or my usual go to towbar manufacturer Westfalia, are clear that the X5M is legally homologated for towing. Anyone tow with one of these or are willing to eyeball the VIN plate for gross train weight minus gross vehicle weight?

I've got an X5M (F85 for proper beardage wink) and it's got a (fitted at build) electric fold-out tow bar.

I've never towed with it but let me know if I can get the tow limits for you.

Hi. Not being massively technically minded I can’t really interpret this so have uploaded a photo. This is from a 2018 X5M. Hopefully it answers your question.

Just remember towing will give 12ish MPG if your lucky, happy petrol hunting.

BTW - if you haven’t done so already, make sure you have a decent test drive and are happy you can live with the ride quality.

I got a X5M this year (18) plate... lovely thing, it did tramline a lot but the seats were the most comfortable i have sat in.

Averaged 17mpg and 23mpg at a push if was driving errrr slow. Tow bar was about £800 fitted for a swan neck.

My SUV needed to be petrol, the X5M was great but developed a fault in the first month so the deal was reversed and stuck with my M4 for me and went shopping elsewhere for a SUV

Ended up in a Merc GLE 43 AMG, it's 400bhp and was the same year, higher spec (TV's, carplay etc) made a lovely noise (baby AMG) and returns 19MPG whilst towing our 1700kg caravan. On a good run it gives us 30mpg!

The only downside is that it is not a full blown 63AMG, but it looks like one, sounds good and we got it from a merc dealer with 2yr warranty, ZERO deposit it was still £300 p/m cheaper than the X5M... which in comparison was the same list price as the AMG but was still £300 more p/m after a £9k deposit - utter madness.

I have had an X5M(F85) since new and agree about the seats being the most comfortable - the ride quaity (I have the 21" wheels with Michelin SuperSport tyres can be jiggly on UK roads. Economy is not too bad I can get around 24 mpg on a long motorway run.
