Previous M2 owners - what did you upgrade to?
Discussion
Ever growing family needs meant I had to, after three mega years, let it go for something more practical with more space and basically be less selfish (wish I could afford two cars for myself). Now in a 440GC, and whilst it's a good car, loads more room, better stereo (I'm clutching at straws here haha), and the family much prefer a ride in it - I WANT THE COMP BACK
. Really miss just even starting it up, let alone driving it at full tilt down a back road over the Peaks. Only thing I don't miss is the man at the VPower station.
Weirdly, the insurance is higher on the 440 too lol.

I went from a 2018 M2 LCI to a Porsche 911 GTS (991)
I loved mine, but I hardly drove it and it was just sat there dropping money. I wish I had kept it (but then the list of cars I wish I had never sold with a bit of hindsight is extensive to say the least!)
I've been looking again recently, trying to find an early 'manuel' M2 but with the performance exhaust..... I loved the sound!

I went M2 Comp - 997.2 C4S. Didn’t miss anything. Sure the M2 was faster, but the poise and delicacy of the 997 was a joy after the sledgehammer M2 which only really had one trick - to be fast.
Yeh I’ve been looking at 997.2 but a bit out of budget at mo for a low miler. Probably that and a 991 would be the perfect all rounder and the last of the traditional sports cars. Manual stick shift, 6 cylinder, rear wheel drive, four seats, and with manual dials.Great choice

991 is a great upgrade, arguably the best looking modern 911I loved mine, but I hardly drove it and it was just sat there dropping money. I wish I had kept it (but then the list of cars I wish I had never sold with a bit of hindsight is extensive to say the least!)

Quite an upgrade, more so than M2C. Stupidly Didn’t keep it for nearly long enough.
After a couple lowly runarounds I’ve just upgraded to G82 M4C xDrive.
Looking back, what did u prefer out of the m2 and m3? Yeh g82… think they look awesome despite what everyone saysQuite an upgrade, more so than M2C. Stupidly Didn’t keep it for nearly long enough.

Both had there merits for different reasons, but at end of day, of the two, M3. I think M2C (CS!) might have been best of both worlds. But even though I've not run it in yet (900 miles), I'm already preferring the M4. It's a big beast though!
If they ever make an M2C AWD, that could be the one to go for. I would have held out for that but looks like it wont be for a while, if at all and went for G82 whilst I could (and still had ID7).

I haven’t found anything to replace mine yet, had it tuned by Litchfield and it’s great fun and fast enough, got a few other cars so it not used very often anymore. I am tempted by a Mclaren but worried about some of horror stories. Next spring I will actively start looking a bit more closely at them as it’s a box I need to tick.

A friend of mine had the 570, had a quite a few issues but was all covered by extended warranty. I think the only exception was the ceramics, a bill of 10k if he wanted a like for like replacement, I don’t know exact details but I think he ended up getting steels equivalent and then sold the dam thing. V10 is some car, I’ve rented them numerous times, and it’s just a frickin awesome drive… the noise, the looks, and drivability, grip, - you can’t go wrong. I was looking at r8 V8 gen 1, but the long term running costs put me off a bit, as well reliability.
Any preference on manual or paddles?

I still have the OG M2 in manual but I would like to find a non Plus R8 V10 mk2. Problem is they are very rare and have gone up in value massively and bizarelly even over the past 6 months.

I would prefer manual but they didn't do one for the Mk2 V10.
I'll happily live with auto. If/when I can find one at all at around £70k...
I still own my manual M2 LCI but I've recently started test driving and setting up AutoTrader alerts for a small selection of potential replacements...
Firstly, the natural progression M3/4C - I've concluded that if I were to go for either of these it would have to be a very high specification to justify the jump (icons, extended leather, HUD, 360 cameras, Apple CarPlay etc) and relatively low miles (sub 25k) for less than £40k (M4C) and £45k (M3C). After test driving an M4C I was pleasantly surprised by the drive, I always assumed an M3/4 would feel 'boaty' compared to the M2 but it didn't at all, it felt well balanced and arguably more confidence inspiring than the M2, presumably due to the longer wheel base making it more predictable. But, I did feel a bit let down by the interior... Competition seats, although they look superb (especially compared to the OG M2 dakota leather abominations) they weren't the night and day difference in comfort/quality that I imagined. The HUD/360 cameras although cool, are a gimmick and I could live without. I'd also have to set aside £1.5k for the crank hub fix for peace of mind and another £1k or so for an exhaust, so it's not really a compelling proposition currently.
Secondly, a Guilia Quadrifoglio - I've always loved these but never seriously considered one as when they were released they were well out of budget both in terms of outright price and insurance costs. However, as the years have gone on I can afford a nice example. I test drove one and although the test drive itself wasn't as good as the M3/4 in the sense it was much shorter, I didn't know the roads and had a salesman with me it felt very special in comparison. Maybe that's just because it's different (after 5+ years of FXX ownership), but yeah... It looked, felt and sounded very special. It didn't feel quite as dynamic as the M4C but I think a lot of that was due to the lack of familiarity and the test drive conditions. It sounded glorious and the cabin build quality and design surprised me, it looks/feels better in person, even the standard seats. But, what concerns me with these is the reliability. I know it's a lot better than in older Alfa's but after lurking various forums for the past year I've seen quite a few annoying electrical gremlins arise as well as active aero related expensive bills. It hasn't put me off completely though as those as they are still the front runner for me right now, I'm just going to have to buy the 'right one' not only in terms of spec but warranty/service plan viability etc which is a bit of a chore.
The other options I've been musing for frankly years now is 997.2/991.1 CXS but given my budget I don't think I can justify it due to the age/mileage and undoubted maintenance costs. It sounds lame I know but I think I'd really miss Apple CarPlay too with it being a daily driver. Then sometimes I think, why bother with this strict budget, why not just go all out and get some kind of PCP/lease deal on a 718 GTS/GT4...
It's not a bad position to be in though as I'm still enjoying my manual M2 LCI 2 years and 25k miles later... I've just spent a fair amount getting it ceramic coated, some M Performance side winglets (finally) and new front tyres, discs, pads and fluid so I'm in no real rush to chop it in just yet. But that new car itch has certainly started to creep in now...

This is what scares me 😂I’m not sure I could buy one without warranty
