So a few attempts have been made on neighbours cars recently to steal them and this had me thinking, is a tracker really enough? So got me thinking to when I tested a Huracan recently and it had a Ghost system on it, to enter a sequence of buttons to let the car be started and mobilised.

Now a friend of ours who works for BMW has said that these can sometimes cause electrical issues which then lead to warranty issues which are not covered. Short of buying an awful steering lock, can anyone advise me of their thoughts and the best way forward? Also is a new M4 the type of car people want to steal these days?

Thanks

BMW will void warranty even on their own crap they install.... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Never had an issue with mine in 5 years I have had it, stick it valet mode when it goes to the dealers.

Theives could break into your house and demand the code.....Get a Disklok as a deterrent. No car is safe these days.

Unfortunately a tracker wont stop the car being stolen but a Ghost might , as said BMW have refused warranty on cars fitted with one though (The Ghost was unfairly blamed imo) . The Ghost causing issues with cars is almost always down the the install as there are a lot of cowboys fitting them

When I bought my M4 I had the Trackstar installed as it was cheaper and easier to get insurance and it was the only make that was approved by BMW , sadly it was not reliable and often didn't update the cars location so at the end of the 3 yr period and the end of my factory warranty I had a Metatrac installed and Ghost alongside it (I've had Ghosts on my M235i and my Fiesta ST in the past)

I used Secured Vehicle Solutions who are very experienced with BMW's and stand by their work , and they did a fab job

If you want to guarantee no issue re-warranty then the best solution is a Disklock , so yes one of those awful steering locks

If you've got a driveway install telescopic bollards.

Badly designed and short driveways with too much overhang

Keeping the car out of sight, in the garage, would be the best solution.

I live in one of the highest rated areas for vehicle theft in NW London.

I have used my Disklok on my new RC 300h, X5 45e, 530d, 840i, and X5 30d.

The one night I didn't use it on a new Range Rover, two chaps parked up opposite my drive and watched it for 45 mins.

I still own my cars, and I still own my Disklok.

I also use an Automatrics Mtrack.

Congratulations on the M4, I have just bought a manual F83 Competition in Mineral Grey.

I had an M3 stolen a few years ago. They burst into the kitchen at about 7pm. Fortunately I wasnt in the room, nor were my kids.

I don't much fancy being frog marched out to my car with wife and kids at knifepoint to punch in the code.

There's no visible deterrent with a ghost which is why I wouldn't bother.
